Space: vast, uncharted, and full of infinite possibilities. Whether it’s making the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs, expanding the bridge of the USS Enterprise for Captain Kirk, or more realistically, building cutting-edge orbital rockets, this is your chance to be part of something extraordinary.
Are you ready to push the boundaries of what’s possible in space engineering? Join a fast-paced, mission-driven team in Cambridge as a Mechanical Engineer, where you’ll play a critical role in designing, validating, and optimizing the mechanical systems that will operate in some of the harshest environments imaginable.
What you’ll be doing:
🚀 Lead all numerical simulations (FEA) for the systems to ensure peak performance under extreme vibration, shock, and thermal loads during rocket launches and in-orbit conditions.
🚀 Drive the design and optimization of optomechanical systems, including satellite mirrors, with a focus on performance and cost-efficiency.
🚀 Conceptualize and validate test rigs to simulate real-world mission stresses, ensuring the hardware is launch- and orbit-ready.
🚀 Collaborate with external manufacturers for prototyping and production, regularly sourcing and evaluating new partners to enhance quality and reduce lead times.
🚀 Mentor junior engineers in CAD and FEA, helping to build a high-performing and technically sharp team.
What we’re looking for:
🌠 Strong background in mechanical design and simulation (particularly FEA).
🌠 Experience with optomechanical systems or precision mechanisms is a plus.
🌠 A proactive mindset and ability to work across disciplines in a startup environment.
🌠 Passion for space and a desire to build things that fly.
What’s on offer:
A competitive salary of up to £55,000
Hybrid working arrangements
A dynamic, innovative work environment in North Cambridge
