Holtec International and its subsidiary companies are designing an unconditionally safe and secure source of clean energy, the Holtec SMR-300 small modular reactor. The Position is offered by Holtec Britain as a member of the Holtec International family, a global turnkey supplier of equipment and systems for nuclear, solar, geothermal, and fossil power generation sectors of the energy industry. The Faults Studies Engineer will produce fault studies and will also support the development of the fault studies chapter of the Safety Case for submission to the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) for use in the Generic Design Assessment (GDA).
The Fault Studies Engineer will build a strong relationship with the US SMR Deterministic Safety Analysis (DSA) team. The UK GDA is a critical element for commercial deployment of Holtec SMR’s worldwide, and this role provides a unique opportunity in an exciting emerging technology and energy marketplace.
Experience should include:
* Knowledge of light water moderated reactors and systems.
* Fault Studies and Severe Accidents assessments - evaluations of the reactor core, reactor coolant system, engineered safety features and containment, for design basis accidents and beyond design basis accidents.
Specific Areas of Responsibility:
* Build computer models in order to assess the performance of the plant in design basis and beyond design basis fault conditions.
* Support the development of the Fault Studies and Severe Accidents safety case sections of the Safety Case for submission in the Holtec SMR GDA.
* Coaching and mentoring to develop the team and the individuals in technical and personal skills enabling them to deliver.
* Prepare and deliver presentations to internal and external organizations including the nuclear regulators.
* Defend reactor design positions.
* Applicants should be prepared to play an active role in a project-driven and highly integrated engineering team.
Minimum Requirements:
* Degree qualified in an engineering or science related discipline.
* Must possess excellent credentials in principles of fault studies.
* Strong understanding of thermal hydraulic behavior of nuclear reactors under steady state and transient conditions.
* Strong interpersonal skills. Able to engage credibly within and external to the business.
* A credible decision maker, able to create confidence through crafting of strong justifications and arguments.
* Eligible to work under 10 CFR Part 810.
* Experience performing safety analysis calculations using industry computer codes such as GOTHIC, RELAP5, RETRAN, COBRA, VIPRE, etc.
* Ability to write scripts in Matlab, Python or other languages.
* Basic knowledge to work with UNIX/LINUX computer systems.
