Faculty of Health and Life Sciences
This new 0.3 FTE post is immediately available until 31 July 2027 on a fixed term basis. This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home.
Summary of the role
The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences – Psychology, wishes to recruit a Lecturer (Research Tutor) (Education and Scholarship) to support the delivery of research teaching and supervision on the ‘Studies in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy’ portfolio of programmes that includes the Doctor of Clinical Practice (Research) & the DPPClinPrac programmes. This part-time post (0.3 FTE) is available immediately on a fixed term contract.
You will have responsibility for contributing to the design, development and production of teaching and learning material and deliver teaching either across a range of modules or within a subject area. You will work with the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy portfolio programmes’ staff team to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of teaching both qualitative and quantitative research methods.
* This is an opportunity to deliver high quality research supervision to clinical doctoral students on a psychoanalytic clinical training and a research training programme. You will be able to teach, supervise and examine in both quantitative and qualitative research methods.
* You will contribute to teaching and supervision on related postgraduate programmes in the Clinical Portfolio, in particular the DPPClinPrac & the DClinPrac(Res) programmes.
* You will contribute to the development and implementation of innovative teaching practices, both in person and virtual, across the Faculty.
* You will also act as Research Tutor on the DPPClinPrac and the DClinPrac(Res) and have responsibility for the provision of research teaching and the research supervision of trainees in their major research projects, as well as supporting students with aspects of the wider research programme.
* You will act as a methodology consultant to both students and the staff team working with the Director Research to develop ongoing training and support for both.
You will work with the Research Director, the Portfolio Director and other members of the staff team in their provision of research supervision and teaching, to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of the research programme in accord with the Faculty’s education strategy and within the education objectives specific to the Programme. You will be expected to mark academic material, and act as an internal examiner, as directed by the Research Director.
The successful applicant will have evidence of excellent teaching research and scholarship ideally, identified by peer review and have an interest in psychoanalytic ideas and clinical practice but also clinical research in mental health and mental health services more generally. The applicant will be prepared in particular to develop qualitative research methodologies as applied in psychoanalytic practice. Knowledge and experience of teaching clinicians in a relevant field or discipline and in distance learning methods and in supporting distance learning students will be an advantage.
About you
For a Lecturer post you will:
* Possess a depth or breadth of specialist knowledge demonstrated by a Clinical Doctorate or Ph.D. (complete or nearing completion) in an academic area relevant to psychoanalytic, psychodynamic or clinical research, or have equivalent experience of clinical / NHS research as a researcher at a level to teach and support learning, with a professional qualification as an Allied Health Professional.
* Use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students;
* Participate in and develop external networks, for example, to contribute to student recruitment, secure student placements, facilitate outreach work, generate income, obtain consultancy projects, or build relationships for future activities;
* Will have evidence of excellent teaching identified by peer review and have made an impact at discipline programme level beyond their own teaching;
* Be expected to work towards Fellow of the HEA status and to attend formal CPD relating to this.
