Buglife Cymru is seeking to appoint a part-time (4 days per week) Conservation Assistant to support delivery of our Coal Spoil Connections project. This is a Buglife led partnership project that aims to better understand the value of coal spoil sites for biodiversity by building upon existing habitat and species data, and increase awareness of the value of coal spoil sites by engaging members of the public and decision makers. Project delivery is focussed across three Local Authority areas in the South Wales Coalfield – Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly and Rhondda Cynon Taf – and is funded by the Welsh Government’s Nature Networks Fund, administered by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The Conservation Assistant will have a unique opportunity to gain confidence and a variety of skills including: field survey and recording techniques; site assessments; species identification and ecology across a range of taxa (incl. invertebrates, flora, fungi); giving presentations; leading community events; and communications.
We operate a hybrid working policy, offering a mix of office and home based working. You will also undertake regular site visits and meetings with Buglife staff, project partners and local communities. A flexible approach to the working pattern will be considered for the successful candidate.
