Breast and General Radiology - Applicants are invited to apply for this post supporting the delivery of Breast and General Diagnostic Imaging. The successful candidate will have experience to shape breast imaging and support the clinical team in developing the breast services. In addition, they should have experience in reporting a variety of oncological and body cross-sectional studies. They should have a proven track record in leading radiology at breast MDT and contribute flexibly to support the delivery of the acute radiology and on-call service, which may involve cross-site commitments.

You will be required to provide an expert opinion in Breast and General imaging and contribute to the delivery of acute and outpatient imaging services. The Trust provides a variety of specialist diagnostic services. At the RVI, there is the Emergency Department and Major Trauma Centre with acute admission of a variety of medical and surgical patients and numerous specialist wards including Upper and Lower GI surgery, Endocrinology, Infectious Diseases, Respiratory, Gastroenterology, and Immunology. At the Freeman Hospital, we provide imaging and intervention to Northern Cancer Care Centre, HPB and Hepatology, Urology, Cardiothoracics, ENT, and the Institute of Transplantation. Other specialist services include sarcoma, neuroendocrine tumour, and intestinal failure. Breast services are provided at the RVI. A successful candidate would contribute to the on-call service, which may be on either site. There is the opportunity for reporting from home through negotiation at job planning.

Clinical:
1. Applicants are invited to apply for this post supporting the delivery of breast screening and symptomatic clinics, performing image-guided procedures and reporting breast MRI studies. The appointee will, together with the existing consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive, efficient, and cost-effective clinical radiology service to the Trust and other users of the service. They are also encouraged to support the general radiology services with oncological and body cross-sectional studies. They will also contribute to the breast MDT rota to prepare for and lead discussions at MDT, which usually runs once a week on a Friday afternoon to discuss screening and symptomatic patients.
2. Deliver reporting in a wider range of acute and outpatient examinations 2PAs.
3. Contribute to general radiology generated cross-site in Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
4. Take part in the general On Call rota; depending on rota frequency, this could be either at Freeman Hospital or RVI.
Administrative:
1. Ensure appropriate management for patients in your care.
2. Contribute to the efficient and effective running of the department.
3. Support initiatives to improve service quality, patient pathways, and manage waiting time targets within the Directorate and the Trust, as well as the wider Health community.
Research:
1. The Trust welcomes and encourages research as a high-profile activity that complements the service provided, with an emphasis on studies that fall within the National Institute of Health Research Portfolio.
2. Time for research is included in the SPA allowance.
Teaching:
1. Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
2. Support the training of other healthcare professionals within the organisation.
3. Active involvement in the clinical supervision of Radiology Registrars in the department.
Flexibility:
In line with the Trust’s core value of placing patients at the heart of everything we do, we are developing our service provision to be responsive to the needs of our patients. To meet those needs, some staff groups will be increasingly asked to work a more flexible work pattern so that they can offer services in the evening or weekend. As a result, any offer of employment to a consultant post will be subject to you agreeing to work a new more flexible pattern or working in the future if required, including evening and weekend work.
