Our client Scottish Power Renewables are currently recruiting for the role of Grid Compliance Manager to join their team based in London or Glasgow on a contract basis initially. ideally for this role they are looking for an experienced Grid Manager with Offshore Wind experience. For more details on this role see below: Main Purpose of Job The Grid Compliance Manager is a critical role within the Offshore Renewables Business, primarily focussing on the delivery of large-scale offshore wind projects in the UK. Belonging to Electrical Design Department and reporting to the Lead Electrical Design Manager UK, the Grid Compliance Manager will be responsible for the UK Grid interface (NESO/ NGET) for Grid Code requirements and Grid code compliance for the successful connection of our East Anglia projects (focused on EA1N) within the agreed offer dates and notification timelines. The Grid compliance manager will be responsible for driving the system studies to the appropriate level of detail and timescales appropriate for the required submissions for the grid compliance process. This will be in accordance with company and business engineering standards and technical acceptance criteria, and ensuring quality, best practices and excellent H&SE performance are applied. The candidate will be managing electrical engineering activities and decisions from a senior engineering perspective to implement a suitable electrical design strategy to ensure grid compliance across the offshore East Anglia project portfolio. - Support the Lead Electrical Design Manager to manage the interface with the grid operator (System Operator and/or Transmission Owner): - Participate in TSO meetings and the technical discussions regarding the grid interface point. - Arrange technical meetings / workshops as required. - Submit (modification) applications as required to align the connection agreement with project programme, capacity and connection design. - Control submission of relevant project data to the Grid Operator as required by relevant agreements. - Ensure Grid Code compliance of the wind farm and wider electrical system. Ensure the required electrical system studies are carried out to demonstrate compliance according to latest grid regulations, policies and procedures - Issue required documentation to the TSO at the appropriate milestones of the Grid connection process - Support the Project Engineering and Executions Managers to develop the electrical system design of the project assets, ensuring that the process is recorded and justified - Support the Lead Electrical Design Manager for the management of the suppliers or consultants in undertaking electrical system studies and other technical electrical assessments to the project including the provision of required inputs from the System Operator and control all electrical design information to and from all packages on the project - Coordinate the review, evaluation and approval of all electrical designs, inputs, studies and design changes. Ensure management of design variations to the system design basis (e.g. through design review workshops etc)- Define the main design criteria and functional design requirements of main HVAC and MV systems including main electrical equipment (incl. STATCOM, FACTS), inter-array and export cables, managing the work of a team of specialists in the aforementioned areas - Review the suitability of HVAC design and ratings proposed by suppliers of the Export Cable, offshore (Converter) substation main electrical equipment (MEQ), inter-array cables (IAC) and wind turbine generator (WTG) electrical equipment in accordance with the electrical studies - Ensure the correct implementation of standard and non-standard requirements documentation in all electrical system packages, identify risks and manage interfaces associated with the electrical design - Ensure compliance with existing Iberdrola/Scottish Power Renewables’ standard specifications, design procedures and guidelines, document and agree variations to them and contribute to future revisions - Ensure corporate H&SE policies are adhered to in all matters and industry best practice - Participate in project meetings and report to the Project Services Electrical Engineering Team status, risks, and lessons learned Key Criteria • Educated to degree level or equivalent in electrical / power systems engineering with a higher-level degree (e.g. MSc, MEng, PhD) desirable • Experience in working on UK NESO grid code requirements for offshore wind connections • Knowledge and experience in electrical systems related to Renewable Energy Systems (RES), Offshore Wind Farms (OWF), HVAC grid connections, Flexible AC transmission System (FACTS) • Experience in the area of Electrical and Grid Works related to offshore wind covering: o Generator and/or transmission system grid compliance process and principles. o Proven experience in power system studies and system electrical design. o Wind farm and grid control management systems. o HVAC and/or HVDC Connections, Transformers, Power Electronic Converters, STATCOMS, Reactors, Switchgears, Harmonic Filters, On-and-Offshore HV Cable Design aspects. o Manufacturing, construction, and installation of offshore / onshore grid works for offshore wind, large generators, or transmission works. o Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) electrical systems. o Grid regulation in the UK or additionally in the USA (East Coast), France, Germany, etc • Experience in delivery of large packages/projects, including contract management, programme management, cost and risk control. • Experience in large multidisciplinary project work in international environments - proactive leader and motivator, with an ability to work, manage work tasks and decision-making processes under pressure and to tight deadlines • Sound relationship management skills and confidence working with Project Managers, Directors and Senior Management • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
