The Chief People Officer (CPO) is responsible for shaping and executing the people strategy to drive business performance and foster a high-performance, engaged, and innovative workforce. This role ensures that BankservAfrica attracts, develops, and retains top talent while embedding a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and continuous learning. This role is an Executive Committee role and consequently embeds the expectation that the CPO contributes meaningfully to the overall business beyond just their divisional responsibilities. Key Responsibilities: 1. People Strategy & Leadership • Develop and execute a Human Capital strategy aligned with BankservAfrica’s business objectives. • Participate as an active leader on the Executive Committee and across the overall business. 2. Talent/Performance Management & Development • Oversee end-to-end talent acquisition, ensuring the organization attracts and retains top industry talent. • Lead workforce planning, talent management, and succession planning initiatives. • Drive leadership development programs and career growth opportunities for employees. • Implement learning and development (L&D) initiatives to build skills for the future of work. • Manage the development and implementation of a remuneration, benefits and rewards strategy 3. Organizational Culture & Employee Experience • Lead culture and values work across the organisation. • Foster a high-performance culture with clear performance expectations and feedback mechanisms. • Champion employee engagement and well-being initiatives, including mental health and work-life balance programs. • Oversee employee relations, conflict resolution, and disciplinary procedures. • Fulfil a business partnering role with Executives and line managers to ensure their commitment to the delivery of the people agenda and timeous implementation of actions required 4. HR Operations, Compliance & Governance • Ensure compliance with labour laws, HR policies, and governance frameworks. • Develop, amend, review and implement relevant policies and procedures. • Oversee compensation & benefits strategies to remain competitive in the market. • Implement HR analytics and reporting to drive data-driven decision-making. • Develop and manage annual BU budget, forecasting, cost management, profitability and reporting • Develop relationship at Sub Board committee level 5. Digital Transformation & Future of Work • Leverage HR technology and automation to enhance efficiency and employee experience. • Develop appropriate work policies that balance flexibility with business needs. • Drive change management initiatives for seamless adoption of new processes and technologies. You will engage with the following stakeholders: - Board and Sub-board Committees - CEO and Executive Committee (Exco) - All functional heads - Employees, including the HC Team - Labour / the union - External stakeholders, industry bodies, professional bodies and networks - External service providers QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE - Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business Administration, Industrial Psychology, or a related field. - Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field would be advantageous. - Professional certification in HR (e.g., SABPP, SHRM-SCP, CIPD, or equivalent) is a plus. - Understanding of all relevant labour legislation (LRA, BCEA, SDA, EEA, OHSA). - Knowledge of and ability to implement best practice HC systems and operations. EXPERIENCE - 10 years of progressive HR leadership experience, with at least 5 years in an executive/strategic HR role. - Proven experience in developing and executing HR strategies that align with business objectives. - Strong background in organizational development, talent management, succession planning, and leadership development. - Experience in managing HR governance, compliance, and labour relations in a complex business environment. - Familiarity with HR technology, digital transformation, and data-driven decision-making. - Experience in the financial services, fintech, or payments industry. - Strong track record of driving culture transformation, diversity & inclusion initiatives, and employee engagement programs.
