This is a new post for a locum Consultant Colorectal surgeon within the colorectal service line.
The department is in the process of appointing a new substantive colorectal surgeon, and this locum post will cover the period until the start date for the substantive appointment. This post is initially for a six-month period.
UHP is one of the largest teaching hospitals in the Southwest. This requires the right people to deliver the best care, expertise, dignity, and respect to our patients. Experience is obviously paramount, but so is the right attitude. We want people who will thrive in a competitive environment and who are willing to go the extra mile to make patients feel that they are important, and colleagues feel that you are an integral part of their team.
Main duties of the job
Our colorectal surgery service provides a full range of diagnostic tests, scans, outpatient consultations, and treatments for patients with symptoms suggestive of benign and malignant diseases of the lower gastrointestinal tract including colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease.
While delivering general colorectal elective and emergency activity, the department is split into sub-specialty services. These include robotic surgery, pelvic floor, IBD, and advanced pelvic oncology.
The department has excellent specialist nurses working in cancer services, stoma, and pelvic floor units.
The colorectal surgery service is managed within the service line which is within the Surgical Care Group. The Service Line Director (Mr. Mark Coleman) represents the Service Line at the senior management level. There is a full-time Service Line Cluster Manager and a Support Manager. All consultants meet weekly internally and have a monthly business meeting with the care group, to which all members are invited.
