What skills and experience we're looking for
We are a highly supportive school with strong subject and senior leadership to help you develop. We are looking for a highly ambitious, committed and dynamic professional to join our Science department; someone who is passionate about their subject, communicates well with young people and makes a positive impact on their learning.
What the school offers its staff
The Science department comprises of 9 full-time Science teachers including a Curriculum Leader who is also a member of the Senior Leadership Team, an Assistant Principal and two Science Technicians. The successful applicant will be able to teach all of the science disciplines (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) at KS3 and KS4, although staff usually teach within their specialism at GCSE. A Level teaching may be available to suitably qualified candidates. We welcome applications from both experienced and Early Career Teachers (ECTs).
Being an all-through school allows us to also work closely with Primary colleagues, and share best practice between Phases to ensure smooth transition for students on entry into the Secondary Phase.
The Science department offers a broad and ambitious curriculum that empowers teachers to tailor learning to their students' academic, social and emotional needs. Planning is centralised as we aim to work collaboratively, but teachers are encouraged to select resources and activities that are suitable to the learners in their classes and have flexibility in how they address learning objectives to ensure the best outcomes for their students. Triple Science is a popular GCSE option with 3 classes in both Years 10 and 11, and 2 classes in Year 9. KS4 students study the AQA GCSE for both Triple Science and Combined Science (Trilogy specification). For KS5, we offer A Levels in Biology and Chemistry, as well as BTEC Level 3 in Applied Science. We are currently looking to expand our provision to include A Level Physics soon.
Like the Academy results as a whole, the most recent GCSE results saw students making good progress: P8 was the highest it has been in the Academy's history and the gaps between the progress of SEN and Pupil Premium students continues to narrow. Aylesbury Vale Academy has out-performed all other local non-selective schools.
Commitment to safeguarding
Our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our children will be reflected throughout the recruitment process and the successful applicant will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check and an online screening check.
