Job Opportunity: Close Down Accountant - Somerset Council Location: County Hall, Somerset (Hybrid options may be discussed) Contract Length: 28 April 2025 - 31 March 2026 Hours per week: 24 hours Rate: £625 per day (Inside IR35) Category: Senior Interims - Agency Workers About the Role Somerset Council is seeking an experienced and technically strong Close Down Accountant to support the delivery of the 2024/25 accounts production and audit process. This is a critical interim role, designed to provide senior-level expertise during a peak in workload. You'll work closely with the finance team, bringing a sharp eye for detail and ensuring the integrity and quality of financial data. This role is ideal for someone with deep technical knowledge of local authority accounts and the ability to hit the ground running. Key Responsibilities Lead on the production of 2024/25 annual accounts in accordance with statutory deadlines Provide assurance and critical review of financial data Work closely with internal teams and external auditors to ensure timely and accurate reporting Address technical accounting issues and ensure compliance with relevant standards Support the wider finance function with high-level financial insight during year-end close About You -Proven experience in local government financial accounting -Deep technical knowledge of public sector close down and audit processes -Strong analytical and problem-solving skills -Ability to work independently and provide senior-level assurance -Fully qualified accountant (CIPFA, ACA, ACCA, or equivalent)
