The Weymouth Harbour team have work experience placements available through the summer period. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to join our enthusiastic team, based at the Harbourside office in Weymouth. There is also an opportunity to visit Dorset Councils other Harbours at Bridport and Lyme Regis. You might like work experience at the harbour if: You enjoy working outdoors (in any weather) or have a passion for being on the water. You have sailing or boating experience You can talk with a variety of people, from local fishermen to sailors to international visitors. Aim : For students to gain a real experience of the workplace environment. One which allows them to learn new skills, gain confidence and develop their decision making towards future careers. Overview: It is a busy, interesting and challenging role. Our customers range from those that have a boat in our marina, fishermen, charter boat skippers and visitors that come from other UK ports and from overseas. Key elements of role: Provide a professional and first-rate service to harbour customers on the main reception desk Meet and greet customers either at reception or on the pontoons as they arrive by vessel Provide the required information to help with their visit Book in and allocate berths for visiting craft and their crew Assist in the operation of the town slipway where vessels launch for day sails Provide assistance for lifting of the Town Bridge Assist with bay patrols, by boat to ensure that vessels are within the water sports zoned areas Cleaning and litter picking About you: You will need to be able to communicate well You will need skills to carry out some basic admin and IT tasks You need to be willing to spend a lot of time outdoors as the role will require site visits to the Marina either on foot or by boat and general safety checks in and around the harbour Knowledge of sailing or boating will help to deliver on the specialist elements of this role Applicants will need: Comfortable clothing, that will not prevent you from climbing on and off boats.
