Clinical Research Fellow in Uro-Oncology
This one-year clinical research fellowship has been created to allow the applicant to gain clinical and research experience in Uro-Oncology. The fellow will work closely with other members of the multidisciplinary teams and will support the consultants, clinical fellows, specialist registrars, and clinical research nurses in managing the large Uro-Oncology group clinical trial portfolios. This will facilitate more rapid clinical decision making, an increase in the number of trials opened, together with increased recruitment of patients into new and existing research protocols. This post will also have a particular emphasis on supporting the growing number of radiotherapy related studies in the group. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to participate in the NIHR Associate Principal Investigator Scheme, which would provide practical experience in conducting clinical trials. There will also be opportunities to gain experience in other advanced radiotherapy techniques practiced within the Uro-Oncology team.
Main Duties of the Job
This post is for 40 hours per week to work as a clinical research fellow in the Uro-Oncology clinical and research teams. This position is suitable for an enthusiastic and research-motivated applicant with a medical degree, who is pursuing a career in Clinical Oncology and has an interest in gaining further research and clinical trial experience in advanced radiotherapy and Uro-Oncology.
Candidates must hold full General Medical Council (GMC) registration, obtained FRCR Clinical Oncology qualification or equivalent, and have passed the International Academic English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam (if appropriate) at the time of post commencement.
Job Responsibilities
This post is for 40 hours per week to work as a clinical research fellow in the Uro-Oncology clinical and research teams. The fellow will attend 3-4 appropriate clinics per week and multidisciplinary meetings. In addition, they will participate in clinical research meetings and any other relevant trial planning or trial set-up meetings. The fellow will also spend time reviewing clinical data, writing abstracts/manuscripts, planning new studies, and attending educational meetings.
The Clinical Research Fellow will have the following opportunities within the Department of Clinical Oncology:
1. Audit: Fellows play a key role in Clinical Audit as a member of The Christie Medical staff.
2. Clinics: Attend 3-4 outpatient clinics per week (seeing new referrals, follow-ups and patients on clinical trials) and are expected to undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of these patients.
3. Clinical Governance: Participate in all relevant aspects of clinical governance, including maintaining up-to-date protocols, guidelines and clinical audit, under the supervision of the Consultants in the team.
4. Professional Development: Maintain a level of continuing professional development consistent with the recommendations of the Royal College of Radiologists.
5. Research: Contribute to current research projects within the unit and/or set up new projects.
6. Teaching Commitment: Take a limited part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as agreed upon by the supervisors.

Qualifications
* FRCR or equivalent in Clinical Oncology

* Evidence of participation in research and/or publications
Experience
* Experience in urologic oncology
* Experience of working in an academic environment
* Ability to work with the MDT team
* Overview of governance, ethics and other regulatory issues (e.g. data transfer agreements)
* Experience of radiotherapy planning in urological cancers
* Familiarity with modern imaging methodologies used in staging patients with urologic oncology
* Understanding of technical radiotherapy and functional imaging
* Track record of significant contribution towards peer-reviewed journal articles
* Track record of successful grant proposals
* Knowledge of cancer research
* Experience with clinical databases
