Job overview
The facilities department employs a variety of support staff to help maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment. As a Facilities Management Assistant, you will provide a range of tasks which will primarily involve cleaning duties within our in-patient area.
The role of the Facilities Management Assistant (FMA) remains an integral part of our service delivery, carrying out a range of facilities tasks and ensuring that catering and cleaning standards are achieved and maintained.
Main duties of the job
Applications are invited from hard-working, self-motivated individuals who are able to work on their own initiative and also as part of a team. You must have a flexible approach to your workload, be able to work to deadlines and have high standards of quality in your work.
You will need to demonstrate an understanding of the need to deal with service users and staff in a helpful and supportive manner. You must have good communication skills, a positive attitude and an understanding of health and safety in relation to safe working practices.
Previous experience of hospital cleaning or catering duties, specifically within a mental health environment, would be an advantage; however, training will be provided. You will be expected to have or acquire an appropriate Food Hygiene certificate and must have basic computer skills.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* To work as members of a team, carrying out facilities tasks as allocated and prioritised. Facilities tasks may include all or a combination of the following:
* Cleaning of clinical/ward areas, inclusive of toilets;
* Basic food preparation;
* Fridge and food temperature monitoring;
* Till operation;
* Assist colleagues and their line manager in carrying out the tasks assigned to the team or individual and support the minimisation of overtime and sickness costs to the Trust.
* Undertake all mandatory training as required by Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust and ensure that all required training is kept up to date.
* Participate in performance management and Personal Achievement and Contribution Evaluations (PACE).
* Comply with all relevant policies and procedures (including, but not limited to, health & safety, security, manual handling and food safety).
* Take responsibility for the completion of all duties in a safe and efficient manner, and maintain regular contact with your line manager.
* Stand in for other FMAs as required.
* Liaise with all relevant parties in a friendly and helpful way as required to ensure the achievement of all duties and responsibilities.
* Ensure timely and accurate completion of documentation, and enter and use data on information systems.
* Undertake cleaning duties in accordance with cleaning schedules and instructions.
* Any other duties that may be reasonably expected and that are commensurate with the grade.
Person specification
Qualifications
* NHS experience and training in safety, health and catering or cleaning tasks.
* CIEH Foundation Certificate in Food Hygiene, or equivalent.
Knowledge/Experience
* Experience of working in a similar role (cleaning or catering).
* Experience of working in the NHS.
* Experience of dealing with people.
* Knowledge of the National Standards of Cleanliness and NHS Colour Coding.
* Experience of working in a multi-skilled environment.
