Are you a commercially minded legal professional ready to make a real impact in one of the UK’s leading light rail networks. We are currently recruiting for Senior Commercial Lawyer to join our Legal & Commercial team and provide expert legal support across a wide range of commercial matters, including contracts, procurement, and regulatory compliance.
This is a unique opportunity to work within a lean and agile legal structure. You will take the lead on high-value commercial matters.
As a Senior Commercial Lawyer, you will provide critical legal support across our commercial and procurement operations, ensuring robust contract management and legal compliance. You will collaborate closely with the Legal Counsel, senior management, and cross functional teams to negotiate, draft, and review contracts while managing legal risks.
This role is ideal for someone looking to deepen their expertise in commercial law and contribute to the success of the Manchester Metrolink network.
Key accountabilities will include:
* Take full accountability for the management of commercial legal work across the business.
* Advise on, draft and negotiate commercial contracts across operations, infrastructure, and procurement.
* Provide clear, risk-aware legal guidance to internal stakeholders at all levels.
* Support Procurement: Provide legal support to the procurement team, ensuring supplier agreements and tender documents comply with legal and regulatory standards.
* Claims and Dispute Resolution: Manage claims and disputes, advising stakeholders and resolving legal issues effectively.
* Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with the Legal Counsel, Head of Procurement, and other senior leaders to ensure legal compliance across all business relationships.
* Compliance and Regulatory Support: Ensure that all commercial and procurement contracts meet relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
* Process Improvement: Contribute to improving contract management and legal processes, ensuring efficiency and risk mitigation.

* A salary range between £70,000 - £85,000 (depending on experience)

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
* Legal Qualifications: Qualified solicitor with at least 5 years PQE in commercial law.
* Confident managing legal issues independently with light touch supervision.
* A pragmatic, commercial approach, and the ability to make sound decisions at pace.
* Strong people skills and able to work collaborative.
* Strong knowledge of contract drafting, negotiation, and risk management, particularly in commercial and procurement settings.
* Analytical Mindset: Excellent analytical skills to assess and manage legal risks while supporting business objectives.
* Adaptability: An initiative-taking, self-motivated approach, adapting to changing business needs and managing multiple priorities.
* Desirable experience: Experience in sectors such as rail, transport, infrastructure, or public procurement is advantageous.
