We are looking for an experienced Groundworks Contracts Manager to oversee the planning, execution, and management of groundworks operations across multiple sites, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
About the Role
As a Groundworks Contracts Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing all groundworks and civil engineering aspects of our developments, from initial site preparation to infrastructure completion. You will be responsible for managing subcontractors, liaising with key stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
Reporting to the Construction Director, you will work closely with site teams, project managers, and commercial departments to ensure all groundworks packages are delivered efficiently and effectively while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Groundworks & Site Management
* Oversee and manage groundworks contractors across multiple sites, ensuring compliance with programme schedules.
* Ensure site preparation, foundations, drainage, roads, and external works are completed to a high standard.
* Work alongside project managers, site teams, and external consultants to ensure effective coordination and sequencing of works.
* Monitor progress against project schedules, addressing any delays or risks promptly.
Health, Safety & Compliance
* Ensure full compliance with health and safety regulations, including CDM requirements and environmental policies.
* Conduct regular site inspections to ensure safe working practices and address any issues proactively.
* Lead by example in promoting a strong health and safety culture across all sites.
Budget & Cost Control
* Work closely with the commercial team to manage groundworks budgets, ensuring cost-effective delivery without compromising on quality.
* Monitor labour, materials, and subcontractor performance, ensuring resources are utilised efficiently.
* Identify cost-saving opportunities and potential efficiencies while maintaining high standards.
Stakeholder & Team Leadership
* Act as the main point of contact for all groundworks-related matters, liaising with site teams, consultants, and external contractors.
* Provide guidance, coaching, and leadership to site managers and supervisors involved in groundworks.
* Ensure effective communication and collaboration between different teams to maintain smooth project delivery.
What You’ll Need
* Extensive experience managing groundworks and civil engineering operations within residential or mixed-use developments.
* Strong knowledge of groundworks processes, drainage, foundation works, infrastructure, and external landscaping.
* A solid understanding of construction contracts, NHBC standards, and building regulations.
* Proven ability to manage multiple sites, subcontractors, and budgets in a fast-paced environment.
* Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
* SMSTS, CSCS, and First Aid certifications are essential.
* A background in civil engineering, construction management, or a related discipline is desirable.
