Job Description
Egis Road Operations M40 Ltd are looking for a Landscape & Ecology Works Supervisor to assist with the planning, scouting and delivery of the Landscape & Ecology (L&E) programme. You will be working as part of a team to achieve the landscape and ecology goals on the M40 which include balancing pond maintenance, ditch work maintenance, vegetation defects, weed control, ecological survey and more.
Key Responsibilities:
Scouting Upcoming Work:
1. Conduct scouting operations for planned maintenance work or defect rectification.
2. Advise on expected duration of each task.
3. Advise on appropriate machinery.
4. Document and report findings to the L&E Project Manager.
Create Briefing packs
1. Creating comprehensive work packs.
2. Ensure that all necessary information, resources, and instructions are included in the work packs.
Supporting our internal Landscape & Ecology Teams
1. Provide technical advice where applicable to help and develop the team.
2. Support the L&E Lead Operative in their day-to-day activities.
3. Advise on training and equipment to support the team.
4. Raise requisitions for supplies and equipment.
5. Mentor and train maintenance staff to enhance their skills and knowledge in L&E Practices.
Liaising with Contractors
1. Assist contractors when visiting site.
2. Answer day-to-day enquiries.
3. Carry out inductions and briefing as and when required.
4. Monitor completion paperwork to ensure that it is submitted and filed in a timely manner.
5. Supervise their work as and when necessary.
Quality Control
1. To conduct site visits to review works that have been undertaken by contractors prior to approving payment.
2. To carry out snagging exercise on any completion work, liaising with both the internal and external team to rectify any snags.
Actively report health and safety concerns.
1. Report any near misses or incidents promptly.
2. Promote a positive and safe working environment, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations and best practices.
3. Promote a positive and proactive attitude towards health and safety.
4. Carry out audits on both internal and external teams.
General
1. Identify areas for process improvements and contribute to the development of best practice in highway structures maintenance.
2. Attend relevant meetings as and when required.
3. Develop and maintain a good working relationship with our client and partners.
4. To carry out other such related duties as maybe required.
5. To fully engage with the promotion and adoption of any current and future health, safety and wellbeing initiatives rolled out by Egis Road operation M40 Ltd and/or Egis UK.
Qualifications
Technical skills:
1. A strong understanding of environmental regulations and standards.
2. Excellent scouting and observational skills.
3. Proficiency in creating and reviewing work plans and packs.
4. Strong communication and coordination skills.
5. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
6. Valid driver's license.
7. Basic levels of Microsoft packages and IT systems.
Educational background and experience:
1. Basic Tree Survey and Inspection Course.
2. Knowledge/ Qualifications in the safe use of small plant, tractors and excavators.
3. Knowledge/ Qualifications in safe felling of trees.
4. Experience in working in highway maintenance.
5. Proven experience in landscape and ecology management, preferably in a highway or large infrastructure environment.
6. A demonstrable ability to identify areas for improvement, and implement change, through a combination of clear and effective communication, and a drive to succeed.
7. Considerable and demonstrable experience of a high regard to safety and quality on a high-speed strategic road network.
8. Vast knowledge of tree species and shrub species, tree diseases, fungal and noxious weeds.

Additional Information
Working arrangements:
The role will be based in our Banbury depot reporting to the Landscape & Ecology Project Manager, working Monday to Friday, 40 hours a week. The role offers flexible working hours between 7am - 7pm. Occasional night shifts may be required to assist in large/technical L&E projects.
