The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidenced-based nursing care for a Health Protection and Immunisation service in Hywel Dda.
Tests and vaccinations will be carried out in a variety of settings including vaccination/testing centres, patient's homes, residential and nursing homes, clinic and hospital settings.
They will manage the day-to-day operation of Testing and Immunisation services, ensuring managerial leadership of the staff within the team.
The post holder will be accountable for the delivery of a high standard of professionalism and efficiency without direct supervision.
The post holder will maintain effective relationships with stakeholders effectively leading on delivering Health Protection and immunisation services, always ensuring that improvement to staff and patient care, communication and experience are central to all activities addressing performance issues as they present.
The Team is often subject to change at short notice and the post holder will be expected to react to change with a positive attitude and plan work accordingly with minimum disruption to service.
Main duties of the job
1. Manage the day-to-day operation of the services and also facilitate requests to screen or vaccinate individuals in their own homes and care homes.
2. Lead and develop the core nursing team for Health Protection and Immunisation services delivering compassionate, effective high quality, patient centred testing.
3. Advise on the latest Health Board and national guidelines in liaison with Head of Nursing for Health Protection and Public Health Nursing, ensuring that staff are fully compliant and up to date with current guidelines.
4. Provide visible and professional nursing leadership, support, supervision and guidance (in line with NMC standards) as well as expert clinical advice.
5. Liaise with staff regarding referrals for testing, daily testing lists, electronic sample requests and accurate recordings of testing samples as well as referrals for vaccinations.
6. Deal with complex clinical and managerial situations that arise. Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
7. Ensure that the principles set out in the Fundamentals of Care are incorporated into daily practice to ensure a high-quality service for service users, interpreting National policy and guidance to inform decision making.
