We are seeking an dedicated teaching assistant to join our Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), working with students who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education. Our pupils often present with complex social, emotional, and behavioural challenges, and need a committed, compassionate educator to support them in turning their lives around.
The Role:
As a teaching assistant in our PRU, you will:
* Support the class teaching in delivering engaging lessons, tailored to the needs of individual students, ensuring access to learning despite barriers.
* Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours using trauma-informed approaches and behaviour management strategies.
* Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including pastoral staff, and external agencies, to create a safe and supportive environment for students.
* Build strong, trusting relationships with students, helping them develop resilience, social skills, and a positive attitude toward learning.
Requirements:
* Excellent behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm and consistent in challenging situations.
* An understanding of trauma-informed approaches to education and restorative practices.
* High levels of resilience, empathy, and emotional intelligence.
* Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and external agencies.
* Experience in a PRU or alternative provision is highly desirable but not essential.
