Role Overview:
Macklin Group are seeking a diligent and detail-orientated Trainee Accountant to join our Finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Group Accountant in managing the financial operations of the Malone Hotel and Macklin Care Homes (6 in total), ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. This role is ideal for an individual looking to grow their career in accounting within a varied industry.
About the role
Key responsibilities:
1. Maintain accurate financial records by entering and verifying transactions in the accounting system.
2. Process invoices, verify transaction details, prepare payments, and manage vendor relationships.
3. Assist in billing, invoice generation, and following up on outstanding payments from clients and guests.
4. Reconcile bank statements and ensure all discrepancies are addressed promptly.
5. Review and process employee expense reports, ensuring compliance with company policies.
6. Support the Group Accountant in month-end closing activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
7. Assist in the preparation of financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
8. Help prepare financial accounts and support with internal and external audits.
9. Ensure all financial practices adhere to legal standards and company policies.
10. Provide administrative support to the finance department as needed.
Essential Criteria:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
2. Accounting experience, preferably in the hospitality industry.
3. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and familiar with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or similar).
4. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
6. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
7. Collaborative mindset and willingness to assist team members as needed.
8. High level of integrity and commitment to ethical financial practices.
