Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Pathology service is provided by Pathology First, a joint venture between Southend Hospital pathology, Basildon Hospital pathology and a private partner iPP (integrated pathology partnerships). The Joint venture was formed in 2014 and all the technical laboratory staff are employed by iPP whilst the clinical staff remain employed by the Trust. The Joint Venture is one that is 'clinically led' with the Trust taking clinical oversight of the Joint Venture service. The traditional laboratory departments are still in operation within Southend Pathology namely, cellular pathology, clinical chemistry, haematology (and blood transfusion), immunology and microbiology.
The Trust is currently undertaking the process through which a single pathology service will be delivered to the 3 hospital sites of the merged organisation.
As part of such specialist provision the post holder will have the opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team and attend its associated cancer subgroup meetings. The configuration of responsibilities will be reviewed from time-to-time with the opportunity for change to the mutual benefit of appointee, department, and the trust and wider within the MSE Trust.
