Job Summary
To provide laundry services within the service in accordance with agreed standards, legislative requirements, relevant regulations and in line with accepted best practices.
Liaise with care staff and service users in a polite and person-centred way.
To ensure that service users’ clothing is clean, appropriately laundered and returned to the right service user in a timely manner.
Infection control systems are appropriately used.
To ensure that the laundry requirements of the service are managed appropriately and that there are always sufficient items available for use.
Ensure that there is sufficient and effective equipment to facilitate the laundering of all items.
Duties
The Laundry Assistant’s responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
1. Assist in an effective laundry service implementation and delivery.
2. Ensure that service users’ rights are protected.
3. Follow cleaning schedules, and suggest improvements when it is identified that they would improve practice.
4. Promote infection control, and use identified systems to eliminate cross infection.
5. Use systems to ensure that service users’ clothing is not damaged or lost during the laundry process.
6. Liaise with other staff to prioritise the items for laundry.
7. Identify when the service requires items that are laundered, e.g. sheets or tablecloths, to be replaced.
8. Identify and report to senior staff when laundry equipment is faulty, in need of repair or replacement.
9. Manage the maintenance schedules of laundry equipment.
10. Maintain the laundry environment to be safe, hygienic and well-organised.
11. Develop effective working relationships with other employees within the service.
12. Liaise with service users, their families, relatives or representatives to provide an efficient, effective and person-centred laundry service.
13. Communicate with external laundry supply companies as appropriate, and represent the service in a professional manner.

5. Maintain laundry/cleaning skills and undertake such training and development as is required.
6. Knowledge about the use of specific machines and products is kept up to date.
7. Be responsible for understanding the health and safety requirements of the role.
8. Understand and follow any relevant risk assessments.
Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
Pay: £11.44 per hour
