Activity Leader at UWC Atlantic Experience
UWC Atlantic Experience is looking to recruit a team of seasonal activity leaders to work on our fast-paced, busy, and exciting outdoor and outreach programmes.
Once formal training has been completed, activity leaders will be expected to:
* Plan, lead, and deliver the range of activities
* Take responsibility for maintaining and cleaning activity resources, facilities, and equipment
* Support the general operations of UWC Atlantic Experience
The training programme is a compulsory part of the job, and you will be provided with full training for all aspects of the activities you will be leading and supervising. This will also include training and development in soft skills, health and safety, teaching, and safeguarding.
You will be provided a uniform (T-Shirt and Jumper). Meals will be provided with 1 meal per day (breakfast, lunch, or dinner), and additional meals are available to purchase for a very reasonable price.
Rotas of work will be devised on a weekly basis and will include working evenings and weekends regularly. It is expected that there will be around 30-50 hours of work most weeks. There will be an off-peak period in May in which the expectation will be to reduce hours worked to allow staff to work a higher number of shifts during the peak period of June, July, and August.
This will be a fast-paced summer of exciting work as our groups come from all around the world, and you will have an opportunity to share your summer with some amazing young people and help to make a real difference in their lives.
Whilst this list is not exhaustive, the types of activities that we provide include:
* Team Games
* Problem Solving
* Archery
* Orienteering
* Hiking
* Bushcraft
* Swimming
* Watersports
* Climbing
One of the functions of the role is to act as a link between the staff working the daytime programme and the guests, offering ongoing support, pastoral and wellbeing support when needed, and general supervision of the residential environment on overnight shifts.
While you will not require any previous experience of leading groups, outdoor activities, or pastoral work, it may be advantageous and help with your application. What is essential is that you are willing to learn, have an interest and passion for wanting to see young people achieve their potential through activities, and are willing and able to work in outdoor environments doing physical and sometimes challenging tasks while supporting young people during their stay and being a welcoming part of their household community.
All successful applicants will receive full training ahead of the programmes, as well as ongoing support, monitoring, and mentoring to help you develop your skills. Where possible, we will look to accredit training with recognised qualifications.
