CLINICAL Performance of clinical radiographic duties as delegated by the lead radiographer for the modality. To participate in multi-disciplinary team working. To practice within the standards of the Health Professions Council. To ensure effective communication with patients, carers and all health care professionals about all aspects of patient care. This will include where necessary communicating with sensitivity, tact, empathy, and reassurance. The post holder must be able to remain calm and professional during extremely pressurised situations. To maintain accurate documentation pertinent to the examination. To assist in the training and supervision of radiographer helpers, assistant practitioners, entry grade, and senior radiographer practitioners. To maintain a close liaison with the lead radiographer for each of the modalities, to organise and supervise workflow in the area. Competent knowledge of anatomy Competent in Intermediate life support (BLS) Assist in safe patient transfer. The post holder will be required to support flexible working to maximise workload through the Radiology department. Involvement in planning and prioritising patient lists and workload. Post holder will act independently within appropriate clinical/professional guidelines and refer to their manager when necessary. To ensure previous imaging is available and to ensure all images are discharged to the appropriate place post examination. Ensure all patients are positively identified prior to examination. Consistently adhere to local rules and support others to do the same. Have a thorough knowledge of X-ray imaging and safety. To use patient monitoring systems and know how to deal with emergency situations. Authorise x-ray referrals in line with justified protocols. Perform quality assurance (QA) tests on equipment as required. MANAGERIAL/LEADERSHIP To disseminate information from training sessions as required. Participate and contribute to the staff development programme and educational activities. To act as mentor to junior staff. To participate in departmental appraisal system and appraise junior staff. Be responsible for the completion of actions identified by data quality reports & audits. Responsible for ensuring equipment QA electronic record is up to date. Management of referrals through the CRIS system Be able to hold difficult conversations with other staff members. Be able to assist others with Trust policies. Completing induction programmes with new staff. Assist the X-ray Principal Radiographer in completing daily matron audits in the department. Deputise for the X-ray Principal Radiographer at meetings. ORGANISATIONAL Ensure professional and honest time management of shifts. Responsible for monitoring own roster and having knowledge of upcoming shifts. Responsible for agreeing cover for shifts which you cannot complete. Ensure that time/owing is taken on a shift for the modality of which it was accrued. Responsible for own management of annual leave planning. Day to day organisation of staff duties i.e workloads and lunch breaks. PROFESSIONAL To actively participate in the in-service training programme within the department. To attend relevant training courses as identified and agreed with line manager during personal development review. Maintenance of an up-to-date CPD portfolio. Ensure radiation doses to every patient are as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) consistent with a diagnostic result. To work to radiographic protocols and policies as required under the ionising regulations. To record any unintended / accidental doses through LHCH incident reporting mechanism Escalate potential risks to management immediately. Be responsible for ensuring radiation protection safety including personal protective equipment and dosimetry monitoring for yourself and others within Radiology. QUALITY To comply with the Health and Safety Policies of the Trust including attendance at mandatory training sessions as specified. Encourage junior staff to maintain compliance with mandatory training. To comply with departmental and organisational policies and procedures including reporting of all accidents and incidents. To participate in the development, review and audit of protocols etc as required. Monitor the condition of equipment within the Radiology area advising of any defects in equipment or systems thus providing an early warning for potential hazards. To ensure that potential hazards are identified and reported to the correct authority as necessary. To participate in clinical audit as appropriate. To observe patient confidentiality at all times and to comply with the data protection act and Caldicott recommendations. To actively participate in the Quality Assurance requirements for the Department. Contribute to the development of the service, including participation in the modernisation agenda.
