Role: Overhead Line Design Engineer Location: Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield, Nottingham Duration: 12 Months Pay: £60 - £70 per hour Hours: 40 hours per week Hybrid: 2 days per week in the office Start: ASAP We are currently working alongside a market leading global consultancy, and we are currently looking for an experienced Overhead Line Design Engineer (275kV – 400kV) for an initial 12 month contract based in either their Birmingham, Nottingham, Sheffield or Manchester offices. We are seeking a candidate with experience within transmission and distribution; working knowledge of PLS CADD/Tower for design line work coupled with a broader CAD skillset. The successful candidate will possess a background in EHV OHL design (33kv-400kV) supporting construction, procurement, and consultancy on a variety of projects and in turn we will support your professional development and recognition within the sector. Criteria Degree Educated Professionally qualified (or working towards) 5 years relevant experience Good Programme/project delivery experience Understanding of IEC standards and proficiency in associated technical specifications from clients such as National Grid. Ideal candidates will be responsible for the following: Design of substation OHL equipment and line termination gantry structures & Cable Sealing Ends. Design powerlines with PLS-CADD and powerline towers with PLS-Tower. Sag & tension calculations; - Catenary Support System design; - Line Profiling; - Gantry analysis; - Tower setting levels; - Environmental loads; - Insulator set design; - Overhead Line Wire Clearance; - Route plans; - Material Quantification - Short Circuit Analysis Design powerline structural foundations, including piled, pad, and rock-anchor foundations. Lead and mentor graduate and experienced engineers. The Investigation and proposed remedial actions for damaged or corroded structures: corroded structures (remaining life and remedial action). Substation structures; Power line structures (11kV to 400kV); Structural loading Foundation design, including field testing. Stays and anchors. Cross-Arm design Preparation of feasibility studies, outline and detailed design technical reports and other written documents. Design and detailing of construction design drawings. Production of design concepts, drawings, specifications and other technical documents. Contribute to HAZID and Risks reviews as appropriate. To apply a safety by design approach in line with CDM responsibilities. Working with a team of CAD technicians. Ownership of work to be done (i.e. being required to undertake specific actions within an agreed job boundary, the execution of a delegated task, activity or process). Providing programme updates to the Lead Engineers for the duration of the project life. Highlighting any quality and delivery risks. Provide a technical interface with 3rd parties.
