Healthcare Assistant/Learning Support - Foundation Independence Hub
We have an new opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant/Learning Support to join the team on an annualised hours basis, working 4 days a week, 40-week term time only. In return, you will receive a salary of £22,429 per annum pro rata.
We are a high-achieving college who attract around 2,800 sixth form students across the region each year. We are based within the stunning New Forest National Park and offer our students a huge range of courses and superb facilities.

Responsibilities as our Healthcare Assistant/Learning Support will include:
Personal Care
2. Provide high levels of personal care showing respect for dignity of individuals.
3. Able to undertake intimate personal care.
4. Manual Handling
5. Implementation of physiotherapy programme (In collaboration with external Physiotherapists)
6. Stoma bags – a knowledge of Stoma bags would be desirable but not essential.
7. Catheters – A knowledge and understanding of supporting learners who self-catheterise (if required)
8. First Aid
9. Mental health first aid
10. Administer medicine.
11. Willing to undertake training for specialist individual needs for young people studying at the college.
Supporting the Student
12. From existing documentation and the student profile and in consultation with tutor, identify a range of strategies for supporting individual students.
13. Taking into account the particular needs involved, aid the student(s) to learn as effectively as possible both in group situations and individually by, for example:
14. Clarifying and explaining instructions
15. Ensuring student(s) are able to use equipment and resources provided.
16. Motivating and encouraging the student(s) as required
17. Helping students to concentrate on and finish work set.
18. Helping students to organise and assemble work .
19. Liaising with tutors to support differentiated learning to meet particular learning needs.
20. Supporting students to access required areas around the college.
21. Provide support for student’s specific hygiene/medical and personal care needs. This may include support with intimate care in respect of toileting, dressing, washing and eating.
22. Establish a supportive and constructive relationship with the student(s) concerned and interact according to individual needs.
Supporting the Tutor
23. Contribute to the maintenance of student progress records by feeding back to the tutor in relation to progress and achievement of students, including reference to attitude and behaviour.
24. Assist in administering routine tests, invigilate exams and act as reader/scribe in exams, as appropriate.
Supporting the Curriculum
25. Support learning activities and develop students’ competence and independence in its use including ICT skills.
26. Prepare and use equipment/resources.
Supporting the College
27. Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate internal nominee.
28. Be aware of and support difference and ensure students have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
29. Contribute to and support the overall ethos/work/aims of the College.
30. Appreciate, support and respect the role of other professionals.
31. Attend and participate in relevant team meetings and in-service training.
32. Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required.
33. Assist with the supervision of students out of lesson times, including before and after the College timetable and at break times, as needed.
34. Accompany teaching staff and students on visits, trips and out of College activities as required and take responsibility for a group under the supervision of the teacher.
35. Take note of and comply with College HR procedures for reporting absences, lateness, etc.
As our Healthcare Assistant/Learning Support, you’ll ideally have the below skills & experience:
36. Educational qualifications to GCSE standard in Maths, English
37. Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care or
38. Level 3 National Diploma in health and social care or
39. NVQ Level 3 in Adult health and social care
40. Experience in working in a healthcare environment (this is preferable over a social care environment) specialist schools, one to one specialist support
41. Able to relate well to students with a diverse range of needs.
42. Safe Manual Handling
43. Experience of using hoists and related equipment for personal care
44. Able to undertake intimate personal care.
45. Catheters – A knowledge and understanding of supporting learners who self-catheterise (if required)
