About the role
The Hardware Engineering Manager is responsible for managing engineering tasks within defined parameters of cost, schedule, performance, and quality commitments. This role focuses on the design, development, and production of a specialised hardware solution currently manufactured abroad. A key challenge is aligning the technical documentation with local manufacturing capabilities and resolving cross-border communication bottlenecks to ensure seamless production and delivery.
What you'll be doing
* Lead both UK and non-UK based engineering teams. Oversee coordination between mechanical design engineers, ensuring clear roles and responsibilities, and track task completion timelines. Hold daily stand-ups to align teams and resolve issues efficiently.
* Manage the accuracy and feasibility of mechanical designs for production abroad. Collaborate with engineers to ensure mechanical tolerances meet the necessary specifications for local manufacturing.
* Focus on improving response times to queries from the overseas team. Streamline communication between both teams, ensuring faster feedback loops and technical issue resolution.
* Identify and address gaps in the existing Data Pack, working to modify or redesign components where necessary to better align with foreign production requirements.
* Lead hardware engineering packages from requirements through design, development, and IVVQ, ensuring alignment with project milestones. Tailor engineering processes to meet company and project-specific needs.
* Maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure that client requirements are met during procurement and implementation, particularly with respect to the challenges posed by cross-border manufacturing.
* Prepare monthly engineering dashboards for reviews and support the Work Package Manager by defining work package descriptions in alignment with plans, cost, and budget.
Your experience
* Proactive leadership in both team and technical management.
* Strong background in mechanical design, systems engineering, and design lifecycle management.
* Excellent skills in team collaboration, communication, and problem-solving. Ability to manage risk and challenges across geographically dispersed teams.
* Experience in requirements management, problem-solving, and ensuring alignment with manufacturing capabilities.
You will have the following
* Experience within Systems, Hardware, or Mechanical Engineering in a highly regulated environment, managing multi-disciplinary teams.
* Experience with Engineering Lifecycle Management, including technical leadership, design tolerances, and lifecycle reviews (PDR, CDR).
* Knowledge of Engineering Tools: Familiarity with Primavera P6, Chorus2, DDQS, JIRA, or other lifecycle management tools.
