Finance Officer – Role Overview
The VOA is looking to recruit a Finance Officer within the Chief Finance Officer Group to support the delivery of key financial process and transactions for VOA.
The successful candidate would be a member of our Transaction Services team, which sits within Financial Accounts, and will deliver support to our accounts payable function, credit control processes and lead on the preparation of bank and other reconciliations, monthly reporting process and cash forecasting. This is a key role within the finance function, requiring the successful candidate to work closely across the finance community and teams in VOA and HMRC. The postholder will be working in a fast-paced environment covering a variety of duties and engaging with a range of stakeholders at all levels to ensure that financial processes run efficiently, ensuring transactional activities are completed accurately.
This post will be an ideal development opportunity for someone with existing finance experience and wishing to develop their finance skills and career in the public sector. Additional training will be provided for this role and it is intended that you would gain a solid foundation understanding of key financial processes.
Finance Officer – Key responsibilities
* Preparing and uploading journals, ensuring effective audit trails and approvals.
* Performing month end closure activities including assurance review of credit card transactions, processing certain payment types.
* Performing monthly balance sheet reconciliations within agreed monthly deadlines.
* Accurately recording transactional / process level data and support an appropriate level of evidence collection.
* Responsible for effective reporting of aged debt profile and preparing and analysing other reports.
* Monitoring of shared inboxes to ensure queries are addressed and resolved efficiently and effectively.
* Assist with National Audit Office queries, ensuring audit evidence is robust and is provided in a timely and professional manner.
* Proactively solving problems and responding and ensuring remedial actions are taken.
* Managing elements of accounts receivable and accounts payable queries including processing of supplier refunds and associated issuance of VOA credit notes.
* Carrying out actions to ensure VOA Civil penalty income is correctly reflected in VOA ledgers.
