Job overview
We are excited to offer a development post in the hospital palliative care cross site team. This post will be a Band 6 post for 12-24 months while you are supported to learn the role and the speciality. Once competencies have been signed off the post will be moved to a band 7 post.
The hospital palliative care team provide specialist palliative care support for patients and those important to them across University Hospitals of Derby and Burton.
This is delivered via face to face contact on wards, or by supporting the wider clinical team in decision making regarding best treatments. In addition to patient care, a key element of this role will be to deliver education (both formal & informal) to members of the multi-disciplinary team and to drive service improvement.
This includes weekend and bank holiday working.
Main duties of the job
You will hold a joint caseload of patients with various diagnosis who have complex palliative care needs. You will work alongside their extended care team providing expert advice and support in order to maintain the patients quality of life and allow them to be cared for in a place of their choosing.
You will require experience of working with palliative care patients and have a good knowledge of symptom management. The ability to teach and support others is essential.
You will require excellent communication skills and have a sensitive and empathetic approach. In return you will join an experienced and supportive team who share your passion to improve palliative and end of life care.

* Experience of dealing with families / relatives dealing with loss
* Experience of dealing with patients with a range of medical conditions including malignant and non-malignant conditions
* Experience of working in a variety of clinical settings
* Demonstrable Band 6 experience or equivalent
Education
* NMC Registration
* Relevant Degree or Equivalent knowledge
* Having completed a palliative care module or end of life module or course
* Advanced communication skills
* A psychological or counselling course
