Senior Electrochemical Engineer

Purpose of the role
? The role of the Senior Electrochemical Engineer is to operate, maintain, develop and where appropriate modify the electrochemical impedance testing facility, or button-cell test stands. Impedance testing and analysis is a fundamental capability in the business and vital for material characterisation, cell development, issues understanding and model validation. This position is a hands-on practical role.
By working intimately with the button-cell impedance test facility, alongside scientists and technicians, you will be directly contributing to the scientific understanding of the core our technology and delivery of current and future products. The successful candidate for this position will have a proven ability to understand and communicate complex engineering concepts and a track record of investigating and resolving challenging issues.
This role is positioned at the interface between science and engineering and would suit both scientists and engineers equally who are looking to work collaboratively and develop their skills with exciting technical challenges
Key Accountabilities:
* Equipment owner and main point of contact for button-cell impedance test stands.
* Leading by example in safe operation of the button-cell impedance test stands, including routine maintenance, test installation, test plan execution, test stand troubleshooting and reporting of data.
* Ensure auditable data is produced in line with company quality processes and use measurement systems analysis to ensure a high quality of acquired test data.
* Leading continuous improvements in capability, quality, throughput, and fault-finding of button-cell tests.
* Management of test planning, including coordinating with scientists, technicians, engineers and leaders to schedule, program, and report data of meaningful tests in a timely manner.
* Management of calibrations, safety checks, external maintenance services and internal training for operators.
* Communication of performance metrics, key results, and progress against project/department deliverables.
* Monitor test data in real-time and be the point of contact for science and engineering teams to interpret and adjust tests accordingly.
* Interface and communicate with internal and external customers and suppliers.

Knowledge and skills required for the role:
* Experienced professional, capable of leading delivery of a reliable routine service, continuous improvement and troubleshooting.
* Experienced with safe working in laboratory environments.
* Practical experience in operation and/or maintenance of advanced equipment, for example, test stands, analytical or laboratory equipment, high temperature furnaces, compressed gas systems, etc.
* Familiar with software coding (ideally Visual Basic, Python).
* Experienced with first-level data analysis and reporting suitable for a technical audience.
* Ability to produce risk assessments and use other similar safety tools.
* Delivery-focused and highly motivated, capable of handling multiple priorities and working alone as well as part of a high-performing team.
* Comfortable working independently to coordinate with external suppliers and service engineers as required.
* A background in electronics, electrochemical and/or impedance principles would be beneficial.
