We're excited to announce a new position at Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW) for a Peer Supporter in our Specialist Children and Young People's Inpatient Service at Acklam Road Hospital, Lotus Ward, Acklam Road, Middleborough, TS5 4EE.
The Peer Supporter will play an important role in helping us improve our services. We are looking for someone who has personal lived experience of Children & Adolescent mental health inpatient services. They may have experienced challenges, either through their own journey or by caring for someone else, and who has used mental health services for children and young people in the past. This is a unique chance to be part of a clinical team, using your own lived experience to inspire young people and their families as they work towards recovery.
Main duties of the job
The main responsibility of the Peer Supporter will be to connect with service users by sharing experiences and building supportive relationships. Your unique background with children and young people's mental health services will be a key part of this role.
Most of your time will be spent working one-on-one with service users, but there may also be times when you'll work with groups. You will help them find meaningful and hopeful aspects of life, recognizing that everyone's journey to well-being is different. Your own story may serve as a helpful reference in these conversations.
You'll also assist staff in understanding the importance of what gives service users and their families hope and purpose. It's vital that staff appreciate the impact a service user's personal experience can have on their identity and overall well-being.

Job responsibilities
This role can be challenging yet rewarding as you may be working with children and young people facing various mental health issues such as Eating disorders, Anxiety, Depression, Schizophrenia, Psychosis and Bipolar. You should be able to communicate effectively, even when there are challenges. Working well in a team is essential, and you'll need to have confidence in interacting with others, all while promoting hope and empowerment for those you support.
We are holding an open day for all applicants on the 2nd of May where you can find out more information about the Ward and the role of a peer support worker. This event will be held from 10.00am to 12.00pm.

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
* Good level of secondary education
* Commitment to complete the CNTW Peer Supporter Educational Programme
Skills and Competencies
* Understanding of personal values and beliefs
* Good interpersonal and team working skills
* Ability to share personal story of recovery in a professional manner.
* Ability to draw on own resilience while working within challenging situations
Experience and Knowledge
* Personal lived experience of being the primary caregiver to a child who has used CYPS inpatient services or used CYPS inpatient services themselves.
