Motorcycle News, Grazia Daily, Today’s Golfer, Empire Online and Parkers are some of the high-profile web applications published by Bauer Consumer Media, the digital publishing arm of the global Bauer Media Group.
As one of our Senior Software Engineers, you'll be at the forefront of pushing these apps into places they've not been before, in UK and international markets. Each of them is undergoing modernisation to take advantage of current and future web technologies and you'll be choosing and using the next tech for the next steps.
Of course, it's far from being as simple as just publishing magazines online - you'll be designing and developing systems that marshal data from numerous sources, organise and publish that data in many ways and that fire events that are consumed by further internal applications and external event consumers. You'll be working with a slick development lifecycle, with continuous integration and deployment having the highest priority, and you'll be part of our ongoing push towards having everything as code.
As a Software Engineer with a proven history of web application development across a broad tech stack, you’ll be ready to move into a Senior role (or you’ll already be in one and fancy a new challenge) that allows you to extend your skills and knowledge, and to share them with other team members at all levels of skill and experience.
In addition to working with local UK-based teams, there will also be the opportunity to work with engineering teams distributed across Bauer’s European territories as we build our next generation web platform to service Bauer’s digital ambitions.
The location of this role can be Peterborough/London based, and whilst it is a hybrid role there is flexibility in location, providing you would be able to attend the office at least once every 4 – 6 weeks.
What You’ll Bring:
* Solid experience in .NET with C# and/or TypeScript.
* Familiarity with modern development frameworks and tools such as Node.js, React, Next.js, NestJS, Vue.js, Vite, SASS, BEM, Gulp, Webpack, Tailwind CSS, OpenAPI, and Swagger.
* Comfort working in macOS with Windows VMs or AWS WorkSpaces.
* Expertise in source control management, especially Git (familiarity with branching strategies like Gitflow or GitHub flow; monorepo experience is a plus).
* Proficiency in databases including MS SQL server, Postgres, or other modern RDBMS as well as experience or exposure to Vector & Graph databases, No-SQL, ApacheSolr, OpenSearch, and GraphQL.
* A proven track record in optimizing web pages and performance monitoring (Core Web Vitals, PageSpeed Insights).
* Hands-on experience with containerization, orchestration, and cloud services (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, CloudFront).
* Experience building and optimizing distributed systems, messaging, concurrency, and caching strategies (Redis, CloudFront, in-process caching).
* Familiarity with automated testing tools such as xUnit and Jest.
* Experience or exposure to WordPress CMS and PHP is highly valued.
A Growth Mindset:
* Embracing new technologies: Being open to learning and experimenting with new programming languages, frameworks, and tools.
* Continuous learning: Regularly seeking out new knowledge through courses, tutorials, and reading technical articles.
* Problem-solving: Viewing bugs and errors as opportunities to improve and learn, rather than as setbacks.
* Collaboration: Valuing feedback from peers and using it to enhance your skills and code quality and sharing your knowledge and experience with team members of all levels of their development.
* Resilience: Persisting through challenging projects and complex problems, understanding that effort leads to improvement.
* Innovation: Being willing to take risks and try new approaches, even if they might fail initially.
Closing Date: Sunday 27th April
