The Integrated MSK Service of Surrey Downs Health and Care is a developing and dynamic service boasting a Consultant Physiotherapist, Community Assessment and Triage Service (CATS), First Contact Practitioners (FCPs), Hand Therapy Team and Community MSK Outpatient service.
This is a unique and exciting opportunity for a strong and ambitious physiotherapist with an aspiration to specialise in MSK to take the next step in their career or for an existing specialist MSK physiotherapist to further develop their career.
The Integrated MSK Team of Surrey Downs Health & Care are looking to employ candidates with a variety of experience that would like to specialise in MSK or have already done so.
The Successful candidate would be expected to represent Surrey Downs Health & Care Partnership, liaising directly with local health care contributors from the primary, secondary and tertiary care sectors.
Main duties of the job
* To assess and treat own specialist caseload of musculoskeletal patients and maintain associated records as an autonomous practitioner.
* To participate in the band 6 rotational schedule which involves working across Surrey Downs in a range of outpatient settings including GP clinics, outpatient departments and community hospitals and Hand Therapy unit.
* To supervise less experienced physiotherapists and students within this specialty.
* To feedback and receive guidance from band 7 and Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioners (APPs).
Job responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
* To perform advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse or complex presentations; use advanced clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to provide an accurate diagnosis.
* To formulate and deliver an individual physiotherapy treatment programme based on a sound knowledge of evidence-based practice and treatment options to include developing comprehensive discharge plans.
* To assess patient understanding of treatment proposals and gain valid consent to treatment.
* To use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively and sensitively condition-related information with patients, doctors and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
* To evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment programmes if necessary.
* To manage clinical risk within own patient caseload seeking guidance from band 7s or APPs as appropriate.
* To work within Surrey Downs Health and Care and CSP clinical guidelines and to have a good working knowledge of national and local standards.
* To make accurate and complete records of work undertaken and keep monthly statistics in line with CSP and physiotherapy department standards.
* To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of your own professional and clinical practice.
* To teach, assess and contribute to the performance assessment of junior physiotherapists and physiotherapy technical staff.
* To contribute to development of patient care by attending relevant team, departmental or other appropriate meetings.
Professional Responsibilities
* To maintain own clinical professional development (CPD) by keeping abreast of new developments and trends.
* To actively participate in in-service training programme by attending and contributing to discussions and presentations.
* To participate in the Surrey Downs Health and Care appraisal scheme and formulate a personal development plan.
* To be responsible for teaching student physiotherapists to graduate level on physiotherapeutic skills and knowledge.
* To participate in data collection and occasionally lead clinical audit within the Physiotherapy department or as part of the MDT.
* Maintain and develop current knowledge of evidence-based practice in the areas of each rotation.
Organisational Responsibilities
* To be responsible for equipment used in carrying out physiotherapy duties and to adhere to departmental policies and guidelines.
* To share responsibility for departmental tidiness and maintenance.
* Utilise IT systems appropriately to improve the efficiency of the service.
* To assist in the supervision and co-ordination of junior staff and assistants on a daily basis.
General Responsibilities
* To attend Statutory and mandatory training in line with Surrey Downs Health and Care.
* To maintain complete confidentiality of all patient and staff information known or acquired during the course of work.
* To adhere to all policies and procedures of the physiotherapy department of Surrey Downs Health and Care.
* To undertake any other duties or responsibilities commensurate with the grade as requested by supervising physiotherapist or clinical lead.
Health and Safety Responsibilities
* The post holder will be required to observe local Health and Safety arrangements and take reasonable care of themselves and others.
* To assist in the regular monitoring and maintenance of equipment in accordance with health and safety guidelines.
* To act immediately on safety notices and any other notification in relation to equipment used/prescribed by the Physiotherapy Service.

Person Specification
Knowledge
* Good insight into the NHS.
* Understanding of B6 MSK role in NHS.
* Working knowledge of broad range of musculoskeletal/older people conditions.
* Knowledge and experience of safeguarding policies, practices and procedures.
* Knowledge of wider MDT and interlinking services.
* Experience of B6 MSK responsibilities.
* Awareness of paediatric MSK conditions.
Qualifications
* Degree in physiotherapy.
* HCPC Registration.
* Evidence of CPD including attendance at relevant post-graduate training.
* Member of Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
* Member of relevant special interest group.
Experience
* NHS (or equivalent) experience as a band 5 in a broad range of rotational posts.
* Completion MSK B5 (or equivalent) rotation.
* Experience of working with complex MSK conditions.
* Experience of supervision of physiotherapy assistant or student.
* Involvement in audit, research and understanding of quality issues.
