Environmental Assistant Manager (12 Month FTC)
Base Location: Watford, Reading, Bristol, Birmingham or Manchester

Reporting to the Environment Manager in the CR team, you will lead the delivery of the environment strategy, working on a range of sustainability and environmental issues. This role involves supporting the Environment Manager in delivery of projects with a number of teams including facilities management, engineering, procurement, finance, and workplace managers across the UK KPMG sites.
The role requires strong team working and collaboration skills, comfort with complex data and information, strong employee engagement skills and above all a commitment to excellent delivery.
The role provides significant opportunities for client and supplier collaboration to drive positive environmental change across KPMG’s value chain.
What will you be doing?
* Drive KPMG environmental strategy across the firm to minimise our environmental impacts and reach our ambitious environment and SBTi goals
* Identify and evaluate new opportunities to follow environmental best practice and continually reduce impact of the firm, managing these through to realisation
* Ensure ongoing compliance with environmental legislation
* Support the Manager with the coordination of the Environment Management Group (EMG)
Reporting
* Manage, monitor and review environmental performance bi-annually/annually (as appropriate) against KPIs, reporting results to senior stakeholders
* Manage external assurance of environment and community data for inclusion in annual review
* Ensure the timely and accurate completion and submission of all necessary environmental data and performance disclosures, both internally and externally
* Identify improvements and ensure corporate reporting is accurate, in line with legislative requirements and conforms to best practice
* Oversee the ongoing ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 Environment and Energy Management System (EMS), leading external audits, organising and leading the Management Review, managing the day-to-day running of the system, organising training and working with local Workplace teams to ensure implementation across all sites
Client and Supplier Collaboration
* Working with a range of stakeholders, proactively seek opportunities to work cross functionally and collaboratively within the firm to share information and implement environmental improvement projects
* Act as environmental stakeholder for the Responsible Supply Chain programme, driving environmental improvements through the supply chain in line with our targets
* Liaise with client facing teams to manage detailed requests from clients on KPMG’s performance, and promote and develop opportunities to demonstrate KPMG’s environmental knowledge and leadership with clients
* Support on responding to external environmental disclosure requests, supporting client teams with complex PQQs/RFIs
Other
* Lead on all internal environmental communications including the intranet, newsletters and communications to interested parties. Support on external communications including social media, external media, award submissions, etc.
* Lead the implementation of our environmental engagement programme including specific engagement projects, employee events, management/development and support of Environment Champions, and developing environmental volunteering opportunities
* Support the Manager in the delivery of the environmental strategy and related ad-hoc projects
* Work with the wider Corporate Responsibility team to support events, projects and initiatives as required
What will you need to do it?
* Experience of handling complex data sheets and good analytical and numeracy skills
* Experience of overseeing an external assurance process would be desirable
* Excellent project management and organisational skills, delivering high quality work on time and to budget
* Experience of providing statistical analysis and performance reporting on environmental KPIs
* Experience in managing ISO 14001 / ISO 50001 certification process
* Experience of preparing environmental information for annual report and internal reporting systems
* Excellent communication skills with ability to communicate assertively with internal stakeholders in writing and in person and a wide range of external contacts
* Understands the views of others, anticipating, listening and addressing any concerns
* Experience in an Environment or Sustainability role
Key Skills:
* Degree qualified in a relevant discipline, ideally to include an environmental element
* Environmental qualifications and ongoing commitment to CPD
