New role available for a Transport Night Manager, based at our client's Heston site near Heathrow Airport.
This expanding Freight Forwarding, Warehousing, and Fulfillment business operates nationwide via 8 warehouses at 7 locations, with over 1300 employees.
The role itself, a Night Transport Manager, is a Sunday to Thursday position with working hours from 2200 hours to 0600 hours.
Role Summary
The Night Transport Manager manages and coordinates the transport network through the night operation, ensuring the successful movement of UK and International products in and around the UK to our customers, suppliers, and sites. The Night Transport Manager assists in making strategic decisions that affect the overall operation, including cost and service.
Ideal Candidate
Summary of the type of individual the client is looking for:
1. Persuasive, but fair when dealing directly with drivers.
2. Good verbal skills.
3. Ability to communicate clearly via email as this person will be in direct contact with some of our clients' biggest customers.
4. Ability to use and manipulate a spreadsheet.
5. Overall good with systems on PC, as they will use a Parcel Tracking and a Vehicle Tracking system.
6. Knowledge of trucks and the compliance and law to keep them on the road.
7. CPC desirable, but would consider someone who is prepared to sit the course, with a salary increase upon completion.
8. A flexible approach to work, as there will likely be out-of-hours contact.
Laptop and mobile provided.
The initial salary is £50k per annum. After probation and obtaining a CPC, the client would look to increase this to £55k.
Your Responsibilities
What you do:
1. Manage and control the transport budget and service levels for each contract.
2. Ensure the sites have processed deliveries and loading accurately.
3. Carry out site security procedures and checks.
4. Complete ad hoc vehicle checks to ensure pre-checks are being completed and additional equipment required is serviceable.
5. Responsible for ensuring mandatory training is scheduled and training record cards maintained.
6. All vehicle and FLT maintenance is scheduled.
7. Regular reporting to management on results and ensuring follow-up action where required.
8. Accountable for incident and accident control and preparing paperwork for any regulatory bodies.
9. Ensuring completion of accident investigations and H&S Documents on the H&S System.
10. Liaising with and managing staffing schedules to customer requirements.
11. Reviewing and amending delivery routes and schedules where necessary.
12. Identifying and proactively booking agency cover where required.
13. Cost Management, approving agency timesheets, and ensuring agency spend controls are in place.
14. Direct responsibility for the network transport operation out of hours.
15. Managing all administration, customer quotes, invoicing, and operating IT systems and processes for each customer.
16. Accountable for vehicle and driver compliance, reviewing telematics and ensuring infringements are actioned in a timely manner.
17. Monitoring stock accuracy and loss.
18. Reducing costs within the operation, especially sub-contracting, while maintaining service levels.
19. Accountable for drivers' hours, holidays, and rest days.
20. Proactively recruiting skilled colleagues, keeping labour turnover to a minimum.
21. Proactive recovery planning.
