Your new role
The Director of Software Engineering will lead the Automotive Software Engineering team of circa 50+ people across several locations in the UK and Asia.
Responsibilities:
1. Set strategic direction and provide technical leadership for all software development activities related to Automotive Solutions.
2. Oversee the Automotive Solutions software development project, ensuring efficient use of timelines, budgets, and resources.
3. Collaborate with business segment leadership to align delivery roadmaps with business objectives.
4. Lead, grow, and mentor a high-performing engineering team across multiple countries, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
5. Work closely with Product Management, Technology Management, QA, and Operations teams to deliver projects on time and within scope.
6. Offer hands-on guidance in software development, debugging, performance tuning, and systems integration to resolve technical challenges and drive platform efficiency.
7. Implement best practices and optimize software development processes to enhance team efficiency, improve product quality, and accelerate delivery.
8. Identify and mitigate technical risks, ensuring robust security, process compliance, and operational efficiency.
What you'll need to succeed
1. Proven experience in driving large-scale software development initiatives.
2. In-depth knowledge of the Automotive software engineering ecosystem, development frameworks, and associated toolchains.
3. Strong experience in C programming languages for embedded firmware and systems.
4. Expertise in security, performance tuning, system architecture, releasing, and maintenance, preferably within an Automotive environment.
5. Familiarity with open-source software and experience working within open-source ecosystems is desirable.
6. Experience partnering with Automotive OEMs or tier 1 suppliers to deliver products to market.
What you'll get in return
This is a Grade 7 Leadership position and offers a competitive salary in the region of £150,000 to £160,000 (depending on experience) along with a range of benefits including share options, pension (7% employer contribution), private health care, 25 days holiday and flexible working (2 days a week in the office).
