An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to undertake the role of Assistant Accountant to join the Kent Police’s high performing Finance team. This is a permanent position working 37 hours a week.
The role of this post will be to support the Capital Accountant in providing a financial and budgetary service to Kent Police and a financial support service to Budget Managers throughout the Force by assisting with the formulation of capital budgets and the provision of financial advice; assist with the development and maintenance of Departmental financial management systems to maintain and enhance the standards of financial awareness; assist in providing financial support and advice on the Force’s final accounts and the completion of statistical returns to ensure that the Council meets its statutory financial obligations.
Applicants should demonstrate their skills and experience in the following areas that are essential to the job role:
* Minimum of 2 years of equivalent accounting experience preferably within a large-scale organisation
* Practical experience and knowledge of financial accounting systems and have the ability to exploit the financial information available from the system
* Ability to act on own initiative, work under pressure, prioritise to meet tight deadlines and be a strong team player
* Advanced Excel spreadsheet skills
* Capable of building robust effective working relationships and be confident in dealing effectively with other colleagues at all levels
* Educated to a minimum of 3 GCSE’s grade A-C or equivalent including English and Maths
In addition, the following skills and experience would be desirable:
* Qualified to AAT level or equivalent standard qualification in technical accountancy
* Minimum of 5 years of equivalent accounting experience preferably within a large-scale organisation
* Experience of providing assistance in the preparation of the final accounts and the Statement of Accounts, including preparation of working papers
* Experience of providing assistance to the preparing and monitoring of budgets
* Experience of working in the public sector e.g., local authorities and Police and Fire Forces
The role will offer flexibility in terms of place of work, including the potential to work from home for those who would like to. In the event that home working is agreed for the successful candidate, there will be a requirement to regularly attend a designated ‘Team Zone’ location on a weekly basis, as agreed with the line manager. The designated Team Zone for this role is located at FHQ Sutton Road Maidstone.

Kent Police offer incremental increases within this salary band, therefore the salary for this position will rise to a maximum of £37,932.00.
