Learning Support Assistant (LSA)
Position: 1:1 Support | Start Date: Immediate
We are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to work 1:1 with a non-binary student in college who experiences high anxiety, gender dysphoria, and pathological demand avoidance (PDA) traits. The student is mostly self-sufficient but requires support with emotional responses, communication, and staying engaged with academic and personal development.
The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, patience, and the ability to offer a laid-back yet resilient approach. You will need to relate to the student's interests, particularly Dungeons and Dragons or Warhammer, as these are key interests for the student. This role requires empathy and the ability to engage in discussions about topics of interest, world affairs, and opinions the student may have.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide 1:1 support to the student during college sessions
2. Support the student with emotional regulation and responses related to their traits, particularly around anxiety and strong opinions
3. Help maintain focus and engagement during lessons, ensuring the student feels supported and confident
4. Assist with communication in a way that encourages independence and self-expression
5. Foster a positive and respectful environment where the student feels heard and validated
6. Accompany the student on transport from Southminster to Chelmsford and return
Essential Skills & Qualities:
1. Strong communication skills
2. Ability to offer emotional support and a calm presence
3. Interest or knowledge in Dungeons and Dragons/ Warhammer (preferred)
4. Comfortable working with students who have PDA traits and high anxiety
5. Ability to remain flexible and adaptable to the student's needs
6. Must be a driver
7. Male staff (as per student preference)
8. A laid-back approach but with resilience to handle the challenges of the role
Additional Requirements:
1. Willingness to pick up the student from home in Southminster and return to Chelmsford
2. Experience or a genuine interest in supporting students with gender dysphoria or non-binary identities (preferred)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
