Sports Graduates – Support Children in Newcastle Schools
On behalf of Protocol Education, we are seeking enthusiastic Sports Graduates to work as SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) and SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) Support Assistants in primary and secondary schools across Newcastle.
This full-time, term-time role (Monday to Friday) is a fantastic opportunity to use your sports knowledge and teamwork skills to support children who face emotional and behavioural challenges, helping them thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
Why This Role is Perfect for You:
Your background in sports gives you the discipline, teamwork, and communication skills needed to engage and support young people. While you may use your sports expertise to inspire and motivate, you won’t just be delivering PE lessons—you’ll be supporting students across the curriculum, helping them to engage in subjects like English, maths, and science while also offering emotional and behavioural support. This role is ideal if you’re considering a career in teaching, coaching, youth work, or mentoring—or if you’re simply passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people.
What You’ll Be Doing:
* Providing 1:1 and group support to children with SEMH needs and SEND, helping them engage with learning across all subjects.
* Using your sports expertise to encourage teamwork, resilience, and positive behaviour while supporting learning beyond physical education.
* Building trusting relationships with pupils who may have experienced trauma or face emotional challenges.
* Supporting behaviour management and promoting a positive learning environment across the curriculum.
* Working alongside teachers and pastoral teams to ensure students receive the support they need to succeed academically and socially.
What We’re Looking For:
* A degree in Sports Science, Physical Education, Coaching, or a related field.
* Full availability Monday to Friday during term time.
* A passion for working with children and young people, particularly those facing additional challenges.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* A proactive, patient, and energetic approach to supporting learning and development.
Why Work with Protocol Education?
* Valuable Experience – Gain hands-on skills ideal for careers in education, coaching, and youth work.
* Dedicated Support – We provide personalised guidance and professional development opportunities.
* Local Opportunities – Work in primary and secondary schools across Newcastle.
* Career Progression – Many of our temporary positions lead to permanent roles.
