Child Psychoanalytical Psychotherapist or Psychoanalytically Informed Play Therapist
Salary: The salary range for Part time: £14,960.00pa (16hrs per week) - £29,100.00 (24hrs per week) Salary: £37,400 – £48,500 pa pro rata (full time equivalent)
Hours: Part – time permanent 2 to 3 days a week (16 - 24hrs a week) – negotiable

Experience:
* Significant experience in psychotherapy or play therapy with children, young people, and families.
* Minimum 2 years’ experience in child and adolescent mental health or multidisciplinary contexts (including training placements).
* Experience with complex mental health needs and trauma across diverse ages and severities.
* Supervising and consulting professionals on emotional needs and therapeutic models.
* Proven ability to write detailed, high-standard reports for varied audiences.
* Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection processes, including escalating concerns appropriately.
* Holding and managing a clinical caseload within a multi-disciplinary team.
* Working in therapeutic communities or group-based therapeutic settings.
* Teaching, training, or mentoring professionals.
* Conducting service evaluation, research, or audits.
* Experience with story stem work or delivering therapy in varied cultural contexts.
Job Description:
The job holder will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities and duties:
* Provide specialist psychoanalytic psychotherapy or psychoanalytically informed play therapy for vulnerable and traumatised children, alongside supporting their carers / families.
* Make therapeutic decisions as part of a team based on Amicus’ therapeutic model, evidence-based research, and complex developmental factors.
* Deliver therapy consistent with Amicus’ theoretical approach and core standards.
* Use creative modalities to support children impacted by trauma and attachment difficulties.
* Conduct assessments, deliver therapy, and monitor progress for children and families with complex needs.
* Provide specialist reports and communicate effectively with Amicus teams and external professionals.
* Engage children and families using knowledge of psychoanalytic, attachment, and developmental theories.
* Deliver clinical supervision and training to staff, promoting therapeutic principles across the community.
* Attend meetings, supervision, and training to ensure personal and professional development.
* Participate in risk monitoring, safeguarding, and confidentiality processes.
* Contribute to audits, research, and evaluations of the therapeutic community.
* Collaborate on case reviews, self-assessments, and external audits.

Specification Essential Desirable:
Training & Qualifications:
* Recognised postgraduate-level training in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy (eligible for full ACP membership) or Play Therapy (eligible for full BAPT membership).
* Professional registration with ACP, UKCP, BPC, BAPT, or PTUK.
* Knowledge of therapeutic community practice and psychoanalytic/psychotherapeutic models for complex trauma and mental health issues.
* Familiarity with professional ethical standards and codes of conduct.
* In or has completed personal professional psychoanalytic analysis.
* Accreditation or experience at Master’s level or higher.
* Training in research methods, staff training, or related fields.
* Qualification in providing clinical supervision (individual or group).
Experience:
Experience working autonomously and collaboratively in multi-agency, multicultural environments.
Knowledge:
* Comprehensive understanding of psychoanalytic/psychotherapeutic theory, child development, and trauma-informed care.
* Ability to formulate and evaluate interventions and therapeutic plans.
* Strong communication skills, both oral and written, for complex or sensitive information.
* Knowledge of safeguarding legislation and mental health issues.
* Familiarity with research methods, standardised assessments, and outcome measures.
* Awareness of mental health and children’s legislation.
* Proficiency in IT and record-keeping systems.
* Advanced understanding of therapeutic community principles and service evaluation.
* Awareness of anti-discriminatory practice and health and safety responsibilities.
