Job summary We have a fabulous opportunity for a pharmacist to join the childrens and young peoples pharmacy team as an advanced clinical pharmacist for childrens cancer services and clinical trials. Childhood oncology and haematology is a complex and fascinating clinical specialty, with a multidisciplinary approach to treatment and patient care. It is an area of rapid growth in relation to new and innovative treatments and delivers phase 1, 2 and 3 clinical trials. Based within Leeds General Infirmary you will be an integral part of the childrens cancer pharmacy team and will help deliver the clinical and systemic anti-cancer chemotherapy services to inpatient and outpatients. The post holder will be actively involved in the reivew, set up and delivery of clinical trials. In addition, you will be involved in key service developments and be expected to deliver training to pharmacy, medical and nursing staff. Oncology/haematology experience is desirable but not essential as training will be provided. This role requires strong clinical, organisational, and collaborative working skills. Main duties of the job You will provide expert clinical pharmacy input and oversight to the childrens cancer patients. You will work closely with both the pharmacy and children's cancer clinical trial team. You will review trials in development and then set up and deliver trials to children's cancer patients. You will be responsible for delivering staff training in relation to clinical trials. Due to the exciting variety of patients seen within childrens cancer services you will work closely with colleagues from other specialities including neonates, surgery, hepatology, nephrology, intensive care, and nutrition. The post will give you the opportunity to be an integral part of the childrens cancer MDT. You will monitor and report on clinical and financial governance of medicines in this specialty, advise on potential improvements and lead on these where appropriate. You will be trained to verify chemotherapy and will be expected to review and implement new drugs and treatment guidelines.
