Job summary
This is a specialist clinical role within the UHP Digital Team, relating to patient safety. The post holder will be an experienced clinical practitioner (Nurse/Midwife/AHP). They will be, or willing to work towards becoming a trained Clinical Safety Officer. The purpose of the Digital Clinical Safety Lead is to work alongside the Trust's nominated CSO to implement digital Clinical Risk Management activities across the Trust that support the safe development, introduction, and deployment of clinical digital systems. The post-holder will be responsible for coordinating with other Trust teams and, where appropriate, with digital clinical safety leads from other Trusts, to ensure a cooperative approach to digital clinical risk management.
As part of the digital team, the post-holder will ensure that they follow the digital clinical safety strategy and embed assigned clinical safety processes into practice. Working under the guidance of the Clinical Safety Officer, the post holder will support the completion of clinical safety reviews, assessments and planned interventions for risks associated with digital systems, including the Trusts new electronic patient record (EPR). The role will include engaging teams across the Devon Integrated Care System to ensure clinical pathways are considered and these requirements addressed within the clinical safety approach to systems deployed within UHP.
Main duties of the job
A. As a Digital Clinical Safety Lead, the post holder will ensure digital technologies are effectively embedded to support safe, efficient and high-quality care.
B. To ensure that the Clinical IT system functionality is adhered to support practitioners' professional standards the NMC, HCPC codes
C. To plan clinical risk management activities in support of the development and operation of clinical information systems across the organisation. Facilitate clinical hazard workshops, meetings and other clinical risk management activities as appropriate. This will require assessing complex factors to formulation and adjustment plans as necessary.
D. To support the digital agenda within the Trust and wider ICS.
E. Maintain competencies relating to digital leadership by attending regular updates such as local user group initiatives, Clinical Reference, and Clinical Safety Interest Groups. Through both meetings and use of online forums such as the NHS Futures platform.
F. Provide professional leadership including motivation of staff regarding the safe use of digital technology and effective risk management.
A. Ensure the relevant data is captured and maintained as a collaborative approach with the wider Multidisciplinary team to meet both National and local standards.
B. To always act in a safe and professional manner in accordance with professional codes of conduct (issued by regulatory/registering body) and UHP standards.

Job responsibilities
1. To ensure that a suitable clinical safety process is in place and that it has been followed during the manufacture, procurement, and implementation of digital health systems.
2. Develop, maintain, and refine systems and processes to identify and address patient safety risks associated with digital health applications and systems.
3. Promote and support the adherence of the digital health applications implementation activities including:
a. The deployment and use of Health IT Systems DCB 0160
4. Develop, manage, and maintain the following in support of DCB 0160 compliance:
1. Clinical Risk Management records Clinical safety assessment workshops A Clinical Risk Management Strategy & Plan Hazard Logs Clinical Safety Case Clinical Safety Case Report Safety incident management log Decommissioning Clinical safety Case Report
5. Work with the CSO, members of the clinical safety function offer from frontline digitisation/NHSE, to develop the clinical safety case(s) required for the Trust, including the new EPR.
6. Work collaboratively with other ICS organisations and teams in relation to digital clinical safety and assessments of clinical IT systems. This will include supporting the clinical safety requirements of the shared care record.
7. Maintain Clinical safety assessments/risk logs and update as changes/updates occur. With regular planned reviews against any identified service hazards or risks, supporting an ethos of continuous development and learning from experience, optimisation.
8. Escalate concerns regarding clinical safety, working under the direction of the Clinical Safety Officer, to address and mitigate these concerns collaborating with Trust wide teams and others.
