Trainee Family and Systemic Psychotherapist

Internal Applicants only - Secondment: 12 months | Full-time
We are excited to offer this internal secondment opportunity within Mainstream Community CAMHS, which is open to clinicians who have completed Foundation & Intermediate Level training in Systemic Family Therapy or the CYPIAPT Systemic Family Practice training.
You will undertake a Masters course in Systemic Family Therapy, progressing towards full accreditation as a Family & Systemic Psychotherapist. Employed at Band 6 for the duration of the course, upon completion and accreditation (UKCP), there will be a chance to apply for a Band 7 Family & Systemic Psychotherapist post within Mainstream Community CAMHS.
You will apply for the September 2025 intake at the University of Leeds, with study leave provided. Some placements outside Sheffield may be required during training.
If not successful in gaining a place or completing the Masters, or achieving accreditation, you will return to your original role.
Main duties of the job
Reporting into the Ward Manager, your responsibilities will include:
Assess, plan and implement care for children, young people, and families, managing your own caseload.
Collaborate with colleagues to deliver a range of interventions, including individual, group, and family, across multiple settings.
Conduct initial assessments to determine appropriate family and systemic interventions.
Use clinical and risk assessment skills to manage risk and ensure safe care planning and evaluation.
Demonstrate clinical practice with evidence-based interventions, focusing on family and systemic approaches.
Provide clinical/managerial supervision, preceptorship, and mentoring to junior colleagues and trainees.
Work with service, education, and social care colleagues to deliver holistic care and provide clinical advice.
Contribute to MDT team development and manage an autonomous caseload of referrals.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
* RMN / RN (Mental Health), Occupational Therapist, Social Worker
* Registration with a relevant professional body (ie HCPC, NMC)
* Successful completion of Foundation and Intermediate level Family and Systemic Psychotherapy training accredited by AFT/ CYP IAPT
* Additional training courses in Family and Systemic Psychotherapy
* Training in the supervision of others
Experience
* Significant post registration experience within a CAMHS / Mental Health setting
* Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team and fostering good working relationships
* Auditing clinical standards
* Utilisation of research in practice
* Experience of line managing/supervising others
Knowledge and Skills
* Knowledge of current practice/issues in relation to working with children and young people with emotional wellbeing/mental health difficulties, including knowledge of a range of therapeutic interventions.
* Understanding of safeguarding procedures and Legal Frameworks relevant to child and adolescent mental health
* Ability to dynamically risk assess clinical situations and respond appropriately.
* Ability to build relationships and rapport with young people and their families quickly.
* Ability to manage challenging situations and expectations with empathy.
* Self-motivated and able to work under own initiative and prioritise workload.
* IT literate including sound knowledge of MS Office software such as; Excel, PowerPoint etc.
* Ability to deliver and evaluate systemic psychotherapy interventions
