What is the overall job?
The Sustainability Manager's key responsibilities will include meeting project sustainability deliverables, day-to-day environmental management, meeting the environmental standards or assessments targets (e.g. BREEAM, LEED, Code for Sustainable Homes) and implementing measures to meet company sustainability objectives. This will be a project-based role in London and will report to our Head of Sustainability and the relevant Project Director.
Responsibilities:
* Provide support to project teams to meet and exceed objectives relevant to environmental contractual commitments, regulations, laws and policies. This will require involvement in the Bid, Pre-Construction, Design, Procurement, and Construction and Handover Phase of the project and potentially beyond.
* Support with drafting and agreeing the Environmental Sustainability Management Plan for projects.
* Initiate and chair environmental kick-off project team meetings.
* Identify BREEAM, LEED, WELL etc. (as relevant) actions and other project-specific requirements.
* Work with project teams to develop project-specific strategies for meeting environmental requirements across a range of environmental themes, including but not limited to, responsible sourcing of materials, waste management and minimisation, noise/dust/vibration management, environmental incident prevention and response, biodiversity management, health & wellbeing and carbon / energy and water reduction.
* Explore opportunities for sustainability innovations and drive their implementation.
* Subcontractors management; reviewing and commenting environmental plans, method statements submitted by subcontractors.
* Develop working relationships with relevant industry bodies as well as enforcing authorities specific to the project, such as the Environment Agency and the local authority.
* Work collaboratively with a number of departments to assist with the development of our annual Sustainability Report aligned to relevant standards i.e. GHG Protocol & GRI.
* Deliver training to project teams on environmental responsibilities and other initiatives as well as bringing in relevant experts into the business to upskill our operations.
* Assist with implementing and maintaining Multiplex's Environmental Management System, certified to ISO14001:2015 delivering a programme of internal audits.
* Maintain oversight of updated policy and regulatory landscape and effectively communicate changes internally and within our supply chain.
* Engage with supply chain partners to support their alignment with Multiplex standards.
* Promote a proactive Health & Safety culture.
What do I need to be successful in this role?
* Experience in BREEAM, LEED, & WELL.
* Experience and knowledge with zero energy initiatives in the built environment.
* Experience working on high-rise commercial and residential, high-end residential, retail, education and construction projects and developments.
* Experience in net zero construction site operations, energy retrofits and use of renewable energy systems in the built environment.
* University degree in environmental studies, engineering or equivalent field.
* Knowledge of current UK legislation and other requirements regarding environment & sustainability issues in construction.
* Experience with social sustainability desirable.
* Any experience leading teams would be advantageous.
