Transport Shift Manager
Location: Leeds
Schedule: Days 06:00-18:00 (4 On, 4 Off)
We currently have an exciting role for a Transport Shift Manager, providing an excellent opportunity to join the Moran Logistics team at our Leeds site. The role works on days, working 12 hour shifts on a 4 on 4 off shift pattern and offers excellent rates of pay.
JOB PURPOSE:
Reporting directly to the Transport Manager, this role is responsible for managing the transport operation, ensuring customer requirements are met and company policies and procedures are followed. Supporting the Transport Manager in developing site and company procedures and ensuring customer service levels remain high while managing site teams effectively.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
* Responsibility for day-to-day decisions and activities of the transport department, ensuring in-house requirements are met and customer service levels are achieved.
* Update wage books and answer any queries.
* Raise purchase orders for defects and deal with any queries.
* Manage and support the Debrief Clerks, shunters, and drivers in their day-to-day roles.
* Plan weekly workload and organise staff shifts to ensure all runs are covered in a cost-effective and efficient manner.
* Liaise with Customer Services and the Planning Team regarding any potential service issues or operational needs.
* Produce daily reports on equipment failures, VOR’s, ongoing issues, and service levels.
* Update daily DOT’s reports for all customers, ensuring time deadlines for the reports are met.
* Work with the business to assist with planning and organising vehicle availability to ensure maximum vehicle utilisation.
* Identify training needs of individuals through performance and appraisal systems, working with the Transport Manager to manage these.
* Ensure management of drivers’ behaviour and performance, taking necessary actions in line with company policies.
* Assist the Transport Manager in planning weekly workload and organisation of manpower to ensure all runs are covered cost-effectively, including management of agency requirements.
* Undertake regular vehicle licence checks to ensure competent individuals drive LGV vehicles.
* Ensure all legal requirements regarding tacho collection, driver hours, and transport legislation are adhered to, communicating any offences to drivers and taking appropriate action.
* Ensure adherence to SOP’s and Health and Safety procedures, managing the day-to-day management of site teams in line with company policies, conducting return-to-work interviews, completing investigations, and managing disciplinary hearings with support from the Transport Manager.
* Facilitate a shift hand-over at the start/end of each shift.
* Manage additional cover in peak periods, emergencies, training, holidays, sickness, and absence, ensuring full cover is maintained.
* Assist with gate/fleet checks when required.
* Monitor physical fuel stocks and maintain stocks.

* Follow safe working practices.
* Promptly report all accidents, near misses, and incidents to your line manager.
* Assist in accident investigations as necessary.
* Maintain housekeeping standards.
* Adhere to relevant site rules, QEHS policies and procedures including quality procedures, HACCP, safe systems of work, and environmental controls.
Hygiene:
* Maintain high levels of site hygiene standards in accordance with company procedures.
Communication:
* Possess good communication skills and the ability to liaise verbally with employees and drivers.
* Listen carefully to instructions.
* Keep your Manager updated with any work issues that may affect deadlines.
Flexibility and Ad-Hoc:
* Be flexible to work on a variety of duties as required.
* Carry out any other task that is reasonable and within your skill set as business needs dictate.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE:
* At least 3 years’ experience within a distribution, logistics environment and managing people.
* CPC in National Road Haulage.
* Working knowledge of Transport Legislation / WTD / Drivers hours.
* Good working knowledge of Outlook, Word, and Excel.
* Excellent relationship building and customer-facing skills.
* Ability to listen to and follow instructions.
* Ability to work to deadlines and remain calm under pressure.
* Good accuracy level is essential.
* Good numeracy and literacy skills.
