About the role
This role is based within our Customer Connections Team, which connects customers — such as data centres, battery storage projects, offshore wind farms, transport networks, and solar farms — to the electricity transmission network.
At any one time, there are between 300-400 people working within the department, with expertise in construction, project management, commercial, analytical, account management, communications, power system engineering, and feasibility engineering.
The connections process is key to delivering the capacity needed for an efficient and renewable transmission network. You would play a crucial role in enabling us to deliver an increasing number of highly complex and exciting new projects.
As a Higher Apprentice in our Customer Connections delivery teams, you’ll gain experience in all aspects of health and safety management, quality management, collaborating with contractors, and programme management including:
* Supporting Project Managers and their teams during project delivery.
* Understanding the project milestones.
* Supporting project reporting and site coordination with stakeholders.
* Helping with the management of the contractor’s performance to meet key project deliverables.
* Ensuring Quality and Safety procedures are adhered to throughout the projects.
* Working with contractors and third parties to develop a safety culture in line with National Grid standards.
* Supporting the collection and management of project documentation.
* Attending project meetings and supporting with weekly reports.
* Being involved in project planning and programme management of live projects.
* Working with Operational teams onsite to ensure and understand safety from the systems.
Location
The role will be based in Leeds; however, due to the amount of travel to our site locations, you’ll be issued with a company car, subject to BIK Tax for both personal and business use. You will need a valid full UK Driving License.
About you
* You will need to have a GCSE in English Language AND in Math at Grade C or above (or equivalent).
* 2 A levels / A2: Grades A* - C or equivalent (BTEC National Certificate OR Diploma Level 3 at Grade Merit or Distinction).
* Flexibility to travel is required; annually, you’re expected to travel more than 10,000 miles for business across our regions in England and Wales, including overnight stays away from home in pre-booked accommodation. You must have or be working towards a full valid UK driving license to proceed with your application.
You don’t need prior work experience; determination and the will to succeed are more important as we will teach you everything you need to know. The role will provide you with a variety of skills, including transferable skills to support your career development within National Grid.
