The Vale of Glamorgan Council is looking for a motivated individual to join the Fleet and Vehicle Maintenance team as a Motor Vehicle Fitter. The role will primarily involve working as part of a small team carrying out planned and unscheduled works on the Council’s Fleet of vehicles and plant machinery.

About the role
Pay Details: Grade 7 SCP 20 - 25 £31,586 - £35,235 p.a.
Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 37 hours per week
Shift Pattern. Mon – Thurs: 6.30 am – 2.30pm or 2pm to 10pm; Fri: 6.30am – 2.00pm or 2pm – 9;30pm
Main Place of Work: The Alps Depot, Wenvoe, CF5 6AA

Description: The Individual will carry out or assist repairs on a full range of cars, heavy commercial, light commercial and plant equipment, which will include undertaking diagnosis of faults, ordering parts, completing work to VOSA standards, preparing vehicles correctly for MOT, taxi vehicle plating, completing statutory and associated documentation to meet Traffic Commissioner Standards and general tasks associated with the operation of the garage as required.
About you
You will need:
1. Experience of the essential requirements in the preparation of vehicles for Class 4, 5 and 7 and HGV MOTs Test.
2. Experience in vehicle inspection to meet the standards set by DVSA
3. Knowledge of Health and Safety
4. Mechanical knowledge of a broad range of vehicles, machinery, equipment and tools
5. Knowledge of diagnostic equipment
6. Skilled in disciplines of the repair of light and heavy goods vehicles also plant and ground maintenance equipment.
7. Able to work efficiently under pressure and meet deadlines
8. Good personal organisational skills
9. NVQ Level 3 or City and Guilds Heavy / Motor Vehicle Craft Studies Park 1, 2 and 3 or Equivalent.
10. Holder of a valid VOSA MOT tester’s certificate or the capaility to attain a certificate within 2 years after probationary period
11. Health and Safety Certificate to a minimum standard of IOSH Working Safely or equivalent or the capability to attain a certificate within 2 years after probationary period
12. Commitment to undergo any future training required for the role
13. Must be able to work as a team player and on own with the commitment to the delivery of a quality repair service and excellent customer service
14. Good interpersonal skills
15. Possess a full current valid Category B driving licence
16. Ability to drive/travel throughout the Vale or between locations as appropriate
17. To work variable working patterns as required by the needs of the service
