We’re looking for a Waste Manager. Based at our Capenhurst location you’ll manage the waste function that serves the requirements of UCP, UNS, UUK, projects, operations, and external business. The job entails the safe delivery of contracted requirements agreed with internal and external stakeholders along with technical and compliance oversight of activities such as characterisation, BAT, treatment, packaging, transport and storage.

What you’ll do:
1. Providing UNS, UUK, UCP and projects with timely, compliant and practicable advice relating to the management and disposal of radioactive waste.
2. Develop sufficient planning and reporting processes to monitor and deliver planned work.
3. Responsible for ensuring that external waste management contracts are technically feasible and support UNS’ strategy.
4. Accountable for all BAT decisions concerning radioactive waste made by the Waste Team and will ensure adequate approval for all waste related BAT assessments.
5. Provision of waste technical services to external customers, in line with contractual and commercial arrangements.
6. Managing of budget.
What do you need to thrive in this role?
1. In depth knowledge of disposal and treatment routes for wastes in the UK and overseas.
2. In depth knowledge of characterisation methods, techniques and processes along with a thorough understanding of UK industry good practice and international standards.
3. Thorough understanding of legislation and frameworks that impact waste management in the UK.
4. Degree in a scientific or engineering based subject.
5. Certificate of competence to act as a Radioactive Waste Adviser.
6. Transport of Class 7 by Road Level 2 or Level 3.
