Who You Are You are an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with extensive experience in auditing within local authorities or the public sector, adhering to the Public Sector Internal Audit Standards. You possess a recognizable internal audit qualification such as CIPFA, PIIA, or CIA. You can work both as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision. What the Job Involves The Principal Auditor is responsible for undertaking and delivering the audits assigned in the Council Annual Audit Plan. You will assist the Audit Manager in the planning, monitoring, and control of all audit activities, and supervise team staff when necessary. Responsibilities include preparing audit plans, conducting a wide range of audit activities, carrying out special investigations, providing advice on financial controls, communicating effectively with audit clients, and enhancing the internal controls of the Council. Additionally, you will help in service improvement, staff training, and compliance with statutory requirements, while maintaining good working relationships across departments. You will be expected to work flexibly, adapt to changes, and ensure continual professional development.
