Commissioning engineer’s activities are led by hands-on testing of electrical equipment and systems and working with documentation. This involves performing electrical measurements on electrical components and circuits and functional testing of software and configurations in protection and control devices. Results must be reviewed and verified against design parameters and well documented in test protocols.
Some of the most exciting parts of the role involves fault finding and problem solving. At the foundation of every activity throughout the day is safety. Every Commissioning Engineer ensures everyone's safety. We live and breathe ZeroHarm principle in anything we do!
How You’ll Make an Impact
* Every project is designed and optimized to ensure it delivers on value, efficiency and footprint.
* An engineer knows what needs to be achieved, how it will be achieved, how long it will take and how much it will cost and works with the project operations team to achieve the required outcomes.
* By correct verification of functionality of commissioned circuits during construction you will contribute to safety of all personnel operating the project throughout lifetime operation.
* Documenting of test results will feed into development of new design solutions and optimization of existing systems.
* You will develop these skills through a combination of classroom work and on the job activities at Siemens Energy.
What You Bring
* A MSc or MEng degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or Power System Engineering or a higher qualification (PhD or Deng) in the above with a supporting engineering degree.
* 3 A Levels (or equivalent) preferably including Maths and Science.
* Must be able and willing to travel to project locations in the UK and globally.
* Beneficial, but not essential, willingness to work on offshore platforms.
* Enthusiasm for a career in Renewable Energy project delivery.
* A passion to work within an agile team environment.
* It would be beneficial, although not essential, for applicants to have some relevant industrial experience e.g. summer placements or internships.
* Must be flexible and adaptable.
* Must be a confident communicator and proactive problem solver.
About the Team
Our Commissioning Team in the UK consists of specialists working on both groundbreaking technology as well as more traditional solutions within energy transmission sector. Our projects include HV Substations (both AIS and GIS), HVDC Converter Stations, Offshore Windfarm connections, Static Var Compensators and Synchronous Condensers.
We are part of global commissioning team of Siemens Energy. Competency hub in UK cooperates with multiple other hubs around the world. Our work is performed mostly at construction site locations, but we have also test laboratories and training facilities in Manchester, Newcastle and in Forchheim, Germany.
Our Grid Technologies division enables a reliable, sustainable, and digital grid. The power grid is the backbone of the energy transition. Siemens Energy offers a leading portfolio and solutions in HVDC transmission, grid stabilization and storage, high voltage switchgears and transformers, and digital grid technology.
