JOB SUMMARY
The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and implementation of RF and control subsystems, as well as providing technical support throughout the product life cycle.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Our client has a fantastic opportunity for a RF/Microwave Engineer to contribute to the development of an Inter-Vehicle Data Link communications system.As an RF/Microwave Engineer, you will utilise your expertise in microwave engineering to work on the electronics design of the RF and control subsystems of the system. This role will involve working on laboratory and aircraft concept demonstrators in the later stages of the project.
As part of the Airborne Communications product development group within the Integrated Sensing & Protection line of business, you will collaborate with partner organisations, sub-contractors, and potential customers. You will be responsible for the delivery of work packages focused on analogue and RF electronics, including inter-vehicle data link design, system test, and integration.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Modelling proposed architectures to determine the optimal solution.
2. Simulating RF designs.
3. Documenting designs, including configuration management within the product data management tool.
4. Providing support to laboratory hardware demonstrator development and test activities.
Job Requirements:
Required Skills:
5. Significant experience in hands-on RF design of circuitry between DC and 30 GHz.
6. Experience in designing PLLs in the 10 to 30 GHz frequency range.
7. Background in working with PCB layout personnel in an advisory capacity.
8. Proficient in using RF test and measurement equipment to develop and debug RF circuitry up to 30 GHz.
9. Ability to utilise RF and system modelling and simulation tools such as MATLAB and Keysight ADS.
10. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce concise technical reports.
11. Understanding of business practices, like design reviews, in a high-technology defence environment.
12. Degree in relevant engineering or a related scientific discipline (Electronics Engineering or Physics preferred).
13. Ability to make technical decisions within your own sphere of responsibility.
14. Proven ability to work proactively in a fast-moving and dynamic environment.
Preferred Skills:
15. Knowledge or experience in digital or mixed signal design.
16. Experience in system-level and sub-system integration and debug.
17. Experience in the defence electronics sector.
18. Experience working with UK MOD (e.g. RAF, DSTL, DE&S).
19. Understanding of the deployment of airborne military platforms, systems, and operation within the enterprise environment.
